Revolution Worship is a new music ministry in the style of Hillsong Young & Free, Soulfire Revolution and Jesus Culture, out of Christian Life Assembly from British Columbia, Canada. Their debut full-length worship album,
Live in Love releases everywhere October 22. I really like the energy and enthusiastic worship style found on the album.
The single, "Everywhere," is an upbeat call to worship, and at times when you arrive at church for worship or at a conference, you may not be completely ready physically, emotionally and spiritually to plug in to what God has for you. This song excites me as a worshipper and challenges me to think about whether I'm giving God my best, or my first fruits. I had the chance to speak with Sam Cantelon about "Everywhere."
Please tell me about the background message behind the song.
Revolution Worship is the name of our ministry at our church for our youth and young adults. That's why our band has that name. Part of that ministry is that yearly we do a conference. That conference last year was themed "Everywhere." That was our focus for several months, the idea of us taking God's love everywhere we go. We ended up writing the song for the conference. It became the anthem of the weekend that we spent together. Out of that, we recorded the song. The songwriting process is that we had an event that needed a song, and this is the song we wrote.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Psalm 23:2 (The Voice): "He provides me rest in rich, green fields beside streams of refreshing water. He soothes my fears."
...Psalm 16:2 (NKJV): "O my soul, you have said to the Lord, 'You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.'"
…1 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV): "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy."
…Galatians 4:4-6 (The Voice): "When the right time arrived, God sent His Son into this world (born of a woman, subject to the law) to free those who, just like Him, were subject to the law. Ultimately He wanted us all to be adopted as sons and daughters. Because you are now part of God's family, He sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts; and the Spirit calls out, 'Abba, Father.'"
Psalm 60:12 (The Voice): "Only through God can we be successful. It is God alone who will defeat our enemies and bring us victory!"
What's the takeaway message for listeners about the song and album?
We're in a little city outside of Vancouver Canada, about two hours away from Seattle. One of the things I'm excited for with this album is that in the liner notes in our album insert, we list all of the Scriptures that are connected to all of the songs. We wrote in the song, "Once plagued by sin now we're free, the Gospel is the remedy."
In the Scriptures, we read that we're a chosen people and we're called to declare His praises to those who are in darkness for them to see light. The theme of the song came from the conference after days and days of declaring that truth that God is everywhere.
Having worship that is exciting is something we value. There's value in being still and quiet and listening to the Lord. As we lead a youth and young adult movement, we endeavor to tell people that our God is alive and fun. The pillars our ministry stands on are love, fun and truth. That's what we try to communicate every week. The album embodies that. It's a lot of fun, which is kind of rare in this current Christian music scene. This is an album with seven songs that are upbeat and pretty aggressive. There are only a few slower worship songs. There's a lot of fun in our album. There's also a lot of Truth from the Scriptures in the songs. These songs are packed with the love of Jesus, both His message to us and our message to Him in worship.
Lyrics:
You're always there beside us
With every step You guide us
You're with us everywhere we go
Alone we are incomplete
You give us new identity
Now we're You're sons and daughters
We called and You answered
We hear Your voice getting closer
You called and we answered
Now we will go as You told us
Your love goes everywhere
As we go
Your love goes everywhere
Love has come
And love goes with us
Once plagued by sin now we're free
The Gospel is the remedy
With God we gain the victory
We will go
Go in Your love
The Savior is here
Your love has come
I have had the chance to worship along with this entire album, and it flows nicely with a mix of upbeat and more reflective songs, with anointed male and female vocalists, reminding me of Worth Dying For, Bethel Music, Jesus Culture and their fellow international worship leaders in the various Hillsong music ministries.
I really connect with the lyrics, "Once plagued by sin, now we're free, the Gospel is the remedy. With God we gain the victory." That's my testimony. I used to think that all roads led to Heaven before I knew the truth that "narrow is the gate" of salvation, because there is only One Way, One Truth, and One Life, and that's found in our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the Light of the World, and He is everywhere through the Holy Spirit who lives inside each of us when we've received Him as the Lord of our lives.
I love listening to this album when I want an exciting time of worship that glorifies God and gets me pumped about my faith. Live in Love is loaded with great up tempo songs, catchy melodies, and solid lyrics reflecting unashamed faith in Jesus. I can't get enough of stand-out song "Everywhere" as the song cries out, "You called and we answered. Now we will go as You told us." What a great challenge.
The message compels me to think about where God is calling me to go for Him. The harvest is plenty but the workers are few. As His sons and daughters, we need to take God's love with us "everywhere we go," and know that His "love goes with us." Amen to that!
