Some of you may be familiar with it. The song's called "A Sacred Moment" and it's really become one of my most enjoyable songs to sing and discuss live. When I first heard this song, it reminded me of the verses in Ephesians that states: "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her..."
Now, as a 28 year old, single (unmarried) guy, I can't begin to understand fully what this verse is describing. I will say this though, I feel that dating and the relationships that come from that interaction is one of the most important things we can take part in as we grow and mature. Practically speaking, how else can we know who we're with, or attracted to, if we don't experience if first hand? I mean, putting yourself out there like that and bearing it all is terrifying and rewarding all at the same time.
However, I think we (and when I say "we," I'm talking to the guys since I can't speak for the girls) enter into these relationships with a bit of a cavalier attitude. I mean, where's the pressure if we don't think seriously that this is going anywhere. It's not like we're getting married, right?!?!?
That is what made this song so convicting to me. You can find the lyrics to this song, written by Ronnie Freeman, Nick Robertson & Tony Wood, at the bottom of this devotional.
Listen fellas, this should be our prayer whenever we enter into a new relationship! A girl's heart is the most precious commodity that we will ever seek and that treasure is something we should never be flippant about! True, it's NOT marriage, but who we are in that relationship shapes the person she'll look for in a husband and that responsibility is something we shouldn't take lightly.
I'm going to end up with one amazing wife one day. I trust the faithfulness of God in that respect. In the same way He is preparing me, He's doing the same for her. I also trust that with each new dating relationship I enter, God uses that teach me a little bit more of what it will mean to be the spiritual leader and provider for my family. So to care for this girl as Christ did the church, or as he does for me, can only yield something beautiful in return. At least that's my hope.
Ladies, the message of this song to you is plain and simple. You should never settle for anything less. NEVER!!!
She makes me crazy, She makes me smile
Gonna let her have my heart, For a while
She's got me dreaming, 'bout what could be
Something in her touch, Brings out the best of me
Could this be love, Too soon to say
Maybe just friends, I don't know, either way
I want this to be
CHORUS:
A sacred moment in her life, Guard her heart and treat her right
There may come a day, When she's someone else's wife
If she's not mine to have and hold
May this time we share be known as
A sacred moment
She keeps me praying, Lead me Lord
Don't wanna say and do things I'll be sorry for
God show the way, To live out Your love
Strengthen her faith, be a man she can trust
I want this to be
CHORUS
Till the true love of my life takes my name
Whoever's hand I get to hold, My prayer will be the same
