BEHIND THE SONG WITH KEVIN DAVIS
#401 - "Kings & Queens" by Audio Adrenaline
Kevin Max and Will McGinniss talk about the lead single that has launched the second chapter of Audio Adrenaline--with a renewed focus on "the least of these."

They said "Adios," but Audio Adrenaline is back. The newly crowned winners of THE WE LOVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS "Comeback Award," Audio Adrenaline has recharged and has a determined, singular focus: to bring awareness and support to the orphans of Haiti.

The band is thrilled to share their debut single from their new release, Kings & Queens, along with their music video "Kings & Queens." The music video--which won the WE LOVE AWARD for "Video of the Year," was taped in Jacmel, Haiti at the Hands & Feet Project Children's Village, showcasing the beautiful children of Haiti.

"It's just an incredible song about this idea of when we love the least of these, God wraps these little orphans in his majesty and they can become kings and queens," shares longtime Audio A lead singer Mark Stuart of the song. "It gives you that idea that these are God's favorites, these little kids that have been forgotten. There's going to be a special place in heaven one day because of what they've been through here. It's just a triumphant, majestic song that just connects so deeply with Hands & Feet and the message of Audio A right now."

This music video debut follows in the footsteps of the announcement of the re-formed Audio Adrenaline with former dcTalk member and industry mainstay Kevin Max as lead vocalist, CCM vets Dave Ghazarian (Superchick) on guitar, Jared Byers (Bleach) on drums, and singer-songwriter Jason Walker (Know Hope Collective) playing on keys along with original member Will McGinniss on bass.

With the same heart, passion and infectious musical prowess they developed as a band in the 1990's, multi-GRAMMY® award-winning Audio Adrenaline is indeed back and has put together a new lineup of like-minded musicians with the same common goal; to be the voice for orphans in Haiti and around the world.

The Know Hope Foundation, supporters of Audio Adrenaline and Hands & Feet Project, as well as record label Fair Trade Services, have joined them in this renewed mission to fund and market a new record from which net proceeds will go to Hands & Feet Project to continue growth and support of the nearly eight-year-old charity.

Lead single "Kings & Queens" is an orphan anthem that celebrates the transformation God can bring about. The album's remaining fresh rock tracks are just as powerful. The new Audio Adrenaline is creating music that will move you while making the world a better place for children in need. Thanks to the band, Know Hope and AA's label, Fair Trade Services, a portion of proceeds will directly benefit the work of Hands & Feet Project. For more information, please visit AudioA.com and handsandfeetproject.org.

Audio Adrenaline's Fair Trade Services debut Kings & Queens releases March 12. Kings & Queens conveys a passion and energy similar to previous Audio Adrenaline albums but with a renewed mission for Hands & Feet Project, as a portion of the proceeds will directly benefit the non-profit. Stuart, the former lead vocalist and current Audio Adrenaline songwriter shares, "Honestly, I feel this is one of the best records, if not THE best, AA has ever put together."

I had the great opportunity to interview Audio A members Kevin Max and Will McGinniss about "Kings & Queens."

Please tell me the message behind the song "Kings & Queens."

Will: Kevin Max was one of the principal writers of this song. We toured with Kevin and dcTalk years ago. How God writes these amazing stories is incredible. For me, this song fits so well with what we are doing with Hands & Feet. Although we want to make incredible music, and pave the way for Audio A, the Hands & Feet project is a huge component of Audio A getting back together.

For me, this song embodies the principal truth that God has for every orphan, including the orphans in the Haiti, that the potential for them in God is unlimited. They are heirs to a great Kingdom someday, His sons and daughters now. Once they come into our villages in Haiti down there and get put in groups with a mom and dad, they get given back what life robbed from them--a family. They get a family and everything they need to prosper. They are provided schooling and get to really discover their gifts. "Kings & Queens" addresses that they are royalty, and they've gone through so much and they deserve a great life. That's what this song is about.

Which Bible verses best connect to the message of the song?

Matthew 25:40: The King will reply, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me."

2 Corinthians 6:18: "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty."

...and James 1:27: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

How can listeners apply that message in their walks as Christians when they listen to the song?

Kevin: I was excited to be part of the Hands & Feet project, because it's such a needy country. It's amazing what they've been through in Haiti, and it is an honor to be part of that project. The song itself is a great song, because it really talks about one of the major commandments from Jesus to take care of the needy. Anything we can do to make that message broadened and put it out there for people is so exciting. As an adopted kid myself, I completely relate to these lyrics. Because of that, here's an extra push for me personally to get this message out to people. I feel like this album will hopefully broaden the path for people to hear these messages.

Will: Americans should realize that they live in one of the greatest countries in the world and they have at their disposal any convenience that they could want. We continually in the U.S. live in a blessed situation. From there, realizing that the majority of the world lives a more basic life. The amazing thing about going to a country like Haiti is that they are content in their poverty and they are so content with so little. You go down there and you love on them, and you try to help with their basic needs, but at the end of the day what we have to offer is Christ. I don't want to go and give them stuff. That's a problem we have in our country is too much stuff. We need to give them Jesus, and Jesus commands us to love them well. I'd like people to take away that God loves all of us as sons and daughters and we are all deeply loved and heirs to the Kingdom. In God, He allows us to move mountains and do amazing things.

Lyrics:
Little hands, shoeless feet
Lonely eyes looking back at me
Will we leave behind the innocent too brief
On their own, on the run
When their lives have only begun
These could be our daughters and our sons
And just like a drum I can hear their hearts beating
I know my God won't let them be defeated
Every child has a dream to belong and be loved

Boys become kings, girls will be queens
Wrapped in Your majesty
When we love, when we love the least of these
Then they will be brave and free
Shout Your name in victory
When we love, when we love the least of these
When we love the least of these

Break our hearts once again
Help us to remember when
We were only children hoping for a friend
Won't you look around
These are the lives that the world has forgotten
Waiting for doors of our hearts and our homes to open

If not us, who will be like Jesus
To the least of these
If not us tell me who will be like Jesus
Like Jesus to the least of these

We will love the least of these

Matthew Henry's commentary: "Good works done for God's sake, through Jesus Christ, are here noticed as marking the character of believers made holy by the Spirit of Christ, and as the effects of grace bestowed on those who do them. The wicked in this world were often called to come to Christ for life and rest, but they turned from His calls; and justly are those bid to depart from Christ, that would not come to Him. Condemned sinners will in vain offer excuses. The punishment of the wicked will be an everlasting punishment; their state cannot be altered."

We need to remember that,"Good works done for God's sake, through Jesus Christ, mark the character of believers made holy by the Spirit of Christ," as stated by Matthew Henry. In identifying with our sin, Christ paved the way for us to become identified with the righteousness of God. It is not merely that we acquire a right standing or do good works; we actually become righteous--although the latter may well presume the former. For in Christ we truly assume His righteousness, just as Christ assumed our sin. It is commanded by Jesus in Matthew 5:16 to "let your light shine" so that others may praise God based on seeing the power of His life in us.

Sometimes we forget to give Jesus credit for our freedom and accomplishments. We need to celebrate that freedom with our hands reaching out to others in Christ and show His light in us and let Him shine in us. In closing, be encouraged by the light of Jesus shining in all of us based on our faith in Him. Personally I am very moved knowing that Jesus is shining in me for all to see and believe.

While listening to this song, I am challenged to practice "letting our light shine so that others may praise our Father in Heaven." That's how we can show God in us to others. Also, look for God in the "least of these" as Jesus tells us: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me."
