Getting started is dreamingofthefifth with five tracks to their name. “You’re Not Porcelain” is a coarse hip shaker that turns out to be the defining highlight while “Couldn’t Make The A Team” bluntly shows the band’s devotion for Jesus where “New Pop Song” jumps from the Mineral type sound and ends resembling The White Stripes. This is a decent five songs. Then comes Evelynn…
Evelynn knocked me back a few steps from the comfortableness I boasted with dotf. This is mind shaking hardcore at it’s finest. “1020 Holly” begins the madness with screaming moans that turn out to be words while “E-road” gives the vocals a rest for a short time with a tiny amount of singing. It is surprising to see that when peeking at the lyrics sheet, that the words are straight forward Jesus-filled. The only problem is that you could mistake the song writing for something Carman might have dabbled in. But if you like pure death metal and then some, check this out.
This split is almost akin to new Embodyment meets old Embodyment. Dreamingofthefifth is a decent alt emo act that definitely has potential while Evelynn cannot write a song. But what they lack in song writing, they make up for with presentation. I get the feeling that this is what is intended, as the guitar says more than the vocals ever would. Evelynn definitely get two thumbs up from me.
