In connection with the release of Selah's new album Greatest Hymns Vol. 2, a follow-up to their 2005 collection Greatest Hymns, my top 10 list of my favorite modernized hymns was due for an update. I've enjoyed listening and worshiping along with my favorite modernized hymns in compiling another list.
These songs are all a great way to sing Scripture and worship Jesus in Spirit and in Truth. Enjoy and God bless!
"Be Thou My Vision" by Audrey Assad
from Inheritance
This hymn is an absolutely incredible prayer, flawlessly delivered by Audrey's sweet and sincere vocals layered over a textured and powerful musical arrangement.
"Wonderful, Merciful Savior" by Selah
from Greatest Hymns Vol. 2
This piano ballad is an especially beautiful offering. The faith anthem is the cry of my heart: "You are the One that we praise, You are the One we adore, You give the healing and grace that our hearts always hunger for."
"Amazing Grace" by Selah
from Greatest Hymns Vol. 2
A very reverent and worshipful rendition of one of the world's most loved hymns of the faith.
"It is Well with My Soul" by Audrey Assad
from Inheritance
My personal devotional prayer has been to have more faith, and "It is Well with My Soul" is my heart's cry and anthem to sing daily in praise to the Lord, regardless of my circumstances, doubts or worry.
"Trust and Obey" by Big Daddy Weave
from Every Time I Breathe
This song is an upbeat worship declaration sung with a stirring passion and filled with prayerful lyrics.
"I'll Fly Away" by Jars of Clay
from Redemption Songs
This Heaven-focused song takes listeners on an emotional and spiritual journey with every lyric sung about faith in in joining our God Almighty, our Lord and Savior Jesus in Heaven.
"Come Thou Fount" by Audrey Assad
from Good to Me -- Single
This song encourages me and is one of the most inspirational songs I've ever heard. Audrey really captures what it means to love Jesus and be loved unconditionally by Him.
"Shine On Us" by Michael W. Smith
from Hymns II: Shine On Us
This song is very stirring and convicting. I'm really engaged by the emotional vocals and the deep, prayerful lyrics in this song originally recorded by Phillips, Craig and Dean.
"Power in the Blood" by Amy Grant
from Be Still and Know: Hymns & Faith
Amy does an amazing job in making her hymns and songs sound fresh and contemporary. Her soaring yet intimate voice takes us on a journey and reminds us of the power of Jesus' blood.
"Facing a Task Unfinished" by Keith & Kristyn Getty
from Facing a Task Unfinished
This song was part of a global hymn sing on February 21, 2016 that was sung in several languages and reminded the church to the call for global missions. "Facing a Task Unfinished" was originally penned by Frank Houghton in the 1930s, and now has been re-visited by Keith & Kristyn Getty.
