Top 5 Free Mixtapes of 2012 | Posted November-22-2013

People say you get what you pay for... That isn't true in this case. I feel this FREE Mixtape/Album was worth paying for. Go Download here: http://rapzilla.com/rz/music/freemp3s/4922-alex-faith-honest-2-god

Alex Faith's Honest 2 God Mixtape is just as stated... Honest. He speaks honestly about his life, struggles, sin, and temptation. "Can't Fake It" He, Dre Murray, and Derek Minor speak directly to that. We "Can't Fake It" when Christ changes us. The song also includes an well placed sample. The previous song "Have It All" is a remix of the Adele track beat with a declaration of raps over top.

"Honest 2 God" includes some big names and features... more than you would expect from a free mixtape. He includes his W.L.A.K. crew Swoope, Christon Gray, and Dre Murray, also Suzy Rock and Sho Baraka on a "Runaways" Remix, a song that put him on the map just months earlier. Social Club and one of its members Martymar are featured on 2 tracks. Alex didnt skimp on production credits also including... Wit, Street Symphony, D-Flow, Wes Pendleton and More. He also includes Instrumentals for 3 of the tracks, When I was younger I loved when they included Instrumentals so my friends and I could freestyle on them.

"Video Games" was another track that was released earlier and helped get some hype for the mixtape, although not my favorite track. I really enjoy "Dreams" feat. Social Club, this track includes a sample and the hook is pulled from a song by "The Game" Social Club is one of my favorite new Christian Rap groups and they kill it on this track.

The Honestly continues on "Remember the Rain" Alex speaks from the heart about the pain of losing a child and the rainy times. He calls it a "Blood Stained Memory" and speaks honestly about being mad at God and having to really trust in God's plans.

"M for Murder" (feat. Martymar of Social Club & Dre Murray) "I dial M for Murder" the hook says, they speak to murdering the flesh or murdering our plans and trusting in God's plans. "We do the work of Lord and we murder Pride" Alex finishes his verse.

The Title Track "Honest 2 God" is one of the most honest tracks on the album. "I ain't gonna lie..." is how each verse starts. He speaks about wanting to have, Money, Cars, and Stuff... but he is happy with what God provides. Christon Gray kills the vocals on the chorus and also the second verse, his ability to sing R&B and Rap makes him a great feature on any song or album.

Over all this is a well-balanced record. If you want to call it a Mixtape or an Album, it doesn’t change how great it is. Every track has its value and place on the record. This is definitely in my Top 5 Free Mixtapes of 2012, maybe closer to Top 3. If it weren’t for Lecrae - Church Clothes and MC Jin - Crazy Love and Ridicules Faith, coming out the same year it would be #1.

Best Thi'sl Album Yet! | Posted November-21-2013

I haven't had a chance to listen to the new album so keep that in mind.

This is my favorite Thi'sl album. The concepts in "Beautiful Monster" are thought provoking and inspiring. Every track has hard hitting beats, but none more than "Let it Knock". The title track "Beautiful Monster" and following track "Beautiful Mind" really express Thi'sl's style and unique flow. My favorite track has to be "My Radio on Drugs" Thi'sl expresses his disgust with Hip Hop's focus on drugs and bragging on dealing drugs. "When your song goes off I think I need to take a drug test" Thi'sl says on the track. The most inspiring song has to be "Signed up to Die" He speaks on the reality of persecution in ministry. "Death don’t have a hold on, so death don’t put no fear in me... I signed up to Die" He repeats on the track. We could all learn a lesson in Godly courage from this song.

If you enjoy Rap/Hip Hop with a Southern sound... Thi'sl - Beautiful Monster is a great album.

One of the Best Albums of 2013 | Posted November-21-2013

I became a fan of Alex Faith right out of the gate with his single "Video Games" in 2012. He followed that up with a Free Mixtape "Honest 2 God" which although extremely rough and gritty, it was in heavy rotation on my iPhone and in my car.

His southern sound and intelligent rhymes make for a completely unique and highly enjoyable listening experience. Alex has a lot to say and does a great job getting the message of his life out in his lyrics.

ATLast was highly anticipated. I couldn’t wait to hear it and had been listening to all the singles released and previewed on Rapzilla. Alex offered a 24 hour listening session on his website a few days before release and let me tell you, I couldn’t turn it off. The tracks are perfectly placed in an order that doesn’t allow you to skip any. Yes, I said it... There isn’t a bad or skippable song on this album. I couldn’t get enough and after the 24 hours was up, I waited eagerly to purchase the album and haven’t stopped since.

Surrounded by 2 great artists and albums in the week prior and week following (Beautiful Eulogy - Instruments of Mercy and Lecrae - Church Clothes 2) I really thought this album would get lost in the shuffle. Also going head to head on the same release date as Eminem MMLP2, The ATLast album did well on iTunes and I feel is the best and most underrated album of 2013. Worth every dollar and then some.

Thanks Alex Faith... Keep producing great music!
