Fun & Groovy | Posted July-01-2009
Jade Harrell's songs pack a lot of fun and grooviness in her new album Class Reject. If you love songs that are catchy, happy, and make you want to bust a move then this is your kind of album. It has a dance kind of feel and most of the songs are fast. Reminds me a little bit like the band Out of Eden which sadly doesn't seem to be around anymore. I heard the song "Me and My Radio" and had to get the song but decided to just get the whole album instead! I'm glad that I did because I like all of the songs. Not the greatest album but it's a nice change from other music.

"Me and My Radio" - is definitely my favorite because of how addicting it is. It's one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and won't leave! "Don't Leave" - A unique song in that it sounds like an oldie. "The Unseen" - Sounds a little more rockish perhaps? "What a Fool Believes" - A funky & snappy song.

"Into the Music Featuring Bonafide", "Addicted Featuring Coffee", "Rain Featuring Stefan the Scientist" - All three of these songs have some rap in it. Which is fine if you like rap.

"Say Goodbye", "King of My Heart" The slowest songs on this album and also not my favorite.

"Who You Are Featuring Ayiesha Woods", "You and I" - Songs that are just ok.

"Broken", "Only Human" - Both good songs but not much to say about them.

The only problem I have with this album is that some of the songs kind of sound the same...I have to say one more thing - that I love the album cover!

Screwtape's Letters | Posted June-27-2009
Screwtape writes letters to his nephew Wormwood to give him advice on how to ruin a certain man’s life. Wormwood is young and naïve about how to tempt and claim this man’s soul. At first, the man is an atheist but becomes a new Christian and that doesn’t seem to worry Screwtape. Screwtape assures Wormwood that not all is lost and that he can still win this very person. Screwtape tells Wormwood all that he can about humans and their weaknesses. One of the things is making sure that the man is annoyed with every little thing that his mother says or does. Since the mother becomes easily irritating to him.

Later on in the letters, Wormwood tells Screwtape that his man has met a woman. Screwtape learns that she’s a very strong Christian and he’s annoyed with Wormwood because of it. Screwtape becomes increasingly mad with his nephew as time wears on. (I don’t want to give away what happens in the end)

This book by C. S. Lewis has to be one of my favorites now. It was extremely thought-provoking and helpful. It made me really realize the daily spiritual battles that go on every day. The enemy is constantly trying to tempt us with everything that we do. I am glad that I read this book and it was fascinating to read. I highly recommend this book to just about anyone, though some people might find it a bit slow. It is a must read!

Their First Adventure | Posted May-17-2009
I read this book when I was young, and I really enjoyed it at the time. The book is exciting, and it’s filled with adventure from page to page. It was a bit scary for me at times when I first read it, but it’s still a great book! I bought it for my niece, and she seemed to like it. I noticed that on the back cover of the book it says for ages 10-14. The chapters are a bit long - but then again, there aren’t many chapters. This little book gets five stars overall.

The Dragon | Posted April-28-2009
On a secluded island located not far from Iceland, strange things are happening. Thor, a strong and ancient Norwegian is – strangely - the only one who lives on the island. That is until scientists, soldiers, and electricians move onto the island and start building.

Frank is head of the top secret research that is positioned on the island. He develops something incredibly dangerous and uncontrollable. Many people don’t have a clue what the scientists are working on, and it makes some people ask questions.

Connor is an electrician who came to the island with his family to work on the power cables deep within a cavern. This cavern is situated on the island, and it goes down deep where darkness lurks. Connor grows suspicious of everything and starts to ask questions. Little does everyone know that the “experiment” in the cavern is waiting…waiting for its chance to strike.

People on the island will be tested greatly as they struggle to outwit the “experiment” and find refuge. The experiment is no other than Leviathan…a powerful dragon which cannot be defeated by man alone…

The beginning of the book was interesting, the middle was kind of boring and the end was vastly exciting. At the end, I was on pins and needles because just when I thought Leviathan was done for…think again! The only thing I didn’t like about the book was the ton of technical language that I didn’t understand. Sometimes I didn’t even know what was happening…but otherwise it’s a good book.

Such a Stimulating Read! | Posted April-14-2009
While jogging alone in the country, a woman named Sally Fordyce prays to God for a miracle. She unexpectedly comes upon a mysterious stranger leaning against a tree. The stranger somehow knows her name and tells her that he has brought a message. He tells her that her prayers have been heard, and that her answer is coming. Then, without warning, he disappears into thin air!

Arnold Kowalski is at a Catholic church cleaning when he looks up at the crucifix and asks to be healed. He turns away just for a second, then he is drawn back to gaze at the crucifix that is hanging on the wall. Suddenly, a tear falls down from the eyes of the crucifix onto its wooden cheeks. Arnold is shocked but has to get closer to investigate, so he grabs a ladder and climbs right up to it. He reaches his hand out to gently touch the tears and feels a slight tingling in his hand. He looks down at his hands and realizes that his pain of arthritis has been healed completely!

These are just a few of the strange sightings and miracles that are appearing in the small town of Antioch, Washington. Many people are excited and intrigued, but some find it odd and very strange…

This book was very stimulating, and I had such a hard time putting it down. It was really thought – provoking, and not many books do that for me. Frank Peretti is such a good writer, and I enjoy his books…especially this one!

Life in the Wilderness | Posted March-25-2009
Kendra Marty is just a little girl when both her parents die in a terrible accident. She’s all alone and is an orphan until her grandfather George comes along. George is a tough old bird, and he lives out in the wilderness away from civilization. But when he hears about the sudden death of his daughter and son-in-law, he makes his way down into town and decides that he must find his granddaughter a good home with a good family. He can’t seem to find the right family for Kendra that would suit her, so he makes the decision to adopt her himself.

George can’t take care of little Kendra all the time so he asks his old friend Nonie to help watch Kendra for him. Whenever George isn’t around, Nonie comes and takes care of Kendra and teaches her many things about Indian myths and stories. Kendra becomes confused about all that Nonie and other people have told her about life and religion. Kendra has a deep longing within her heart to find something to answer all her burning questions about life. She wants to find the truth...

I really like this book and enjoyed following Kendra from when she was a little girl to adulthood. The characters came to life in this book, and I especially liked Kendra and was happy when she found the truth!

Different.... | Posted March-16-2009
First of all, I actually found the Shack to be depressing and boring. I couldn’t wait to finish reading it so I could end my agony! lol

There were things that I enjoyed in the Shack but mostly I found it all a bit odd. I wanted to read this book to see what all the hype was about and I am glad that I did :) I noticed that there were a couple of cuss words in this book and I wouldn’t recommend the Shack to young readers.

I do like allegorical books but I didn’t enjoy this one as much as some others… If you are looking for more books that have allegory in it then I would suggest you read Pilgrim’s Progress, The Kingdom Series, and Hinds’ Feet on High Places.

Kathleen O' Malley | Posted March-10-2009
Kathleen O’Malley has a hard life working as a hawker (she sells bread on the streets) and living on the streets of London. The worst part is trying to live with her demanding and rude stepmother which everyone calls “Madam”. Madam is married to Kathleen’s father who is Irish and of course Kathleen is also Irish. Madam has three children and well she just doesn’t see her stepdaughter Kathleen as her own. Kathleen is like a servant in her own home and what’s worse is she has a slight limp that makes it harder to work. Kathleen is constantly worried about her limp and thinks no man could ever want her because of it. Madam makes sure to tell her that and other rude things about her limp.

One day, Kathleen sees an ad on a piece of paper while walking the streets of London.
She couldn’t believe it – the ad says that men in America are looking for women to come over and be their brides. Kathleen thinks it’s ridiculous at first and walks away, but then it’s all that Kathleen can think about. Not too long after she first saw the ad, her father passes away and Madam doesn’t know what to do. Kathleen continues to work on the streets and tries to support her family. After a short while, Madam meets a man and decides to marry him in order to help the family. The only thing is Madam doesn’t want the man to meet Kathleen because she’s embarrassed about her limp. So Madam gives her two choices: either come to the country where they will live and become a servant or stay on the streets and work as a hawker. Kathleen decides to do neither of these choices; instead she makes the bold decision to become a wife of a total stranger….

This is a really good book by Janette Oke and is well written. It might not be the most exciting book that she’s written but it’s good all the same. This is the seventh book in the series - Women of the West. I enjoy this series probably the most of her other series out there.

Bilbo's Tale | Posted February-27-2009
I adore this book by J.R.R. Tolkien and it's one of the few books that I've read twice! When I was younger, I read this book and I found it hard to understand...I didn't enjoy it as much. I just finished reading it again and I enjoyed it much better the second time. There is so much detail in The Hobbit and I love it.

The story starts out like this - Bilbo is content in the shire living in his hobbit-hole...that is until Gandalf comes for a visit! Gandalf tells Bilbo that he's going to send him on an adventure and that's how it all starts ;) Gandalf leaves but not without putting a mark on the hobbit's door. The next day, someone knocks on the door and Bilbo thinks it's Gandalf but is surprised to find a dwarf. Soon after meeting the first dwarf, twelve more have come to Bilbo's home to set off on an adventure. The dwarves' goal is to take gold that once belonged to their ancestors but there's a problem ~ Smaug the mighty dragon is guarding it.....

The chapters are long in this book - the first chapter is twenty-seven pages long!!! What I find cool about this book is that Tolkien wrote songs and riddles, which is really interesting to read. I have to add something here about the songs ~ Some of the songs that are sung by elves are extremely silly. I had a hard time imagining elves singing songs like that! Anyways, it's a great book and I can't wait to read other books by Tolkien.

The Last Book.... | Posted February-18-2009
Emily's Quest is the third and final book of the Emily series...I'm sad to say goodbye :(
It's a good book but I didn't really like the ending. It seemed like the author was trying to rush the ending which I didn't enjoy....I wanted a good ending for this series but..oh well!!!

In this book, we follow Emily on her quest to find what she really longs for.
Emily has the desire to become a great poetess and tries her hardest and succeeds.
She is now an author and enjoys writing stories but she wants more. Emily has had many
suitors but none of them were for her and so she's determined to grow up as an old maid.
Teddy (her old friend) is in love with her but with some misunderstanding Emily thinks he isn't.
To make a long story short....Teddy was going to marry Ilse (Emily's best friend) but at the last minute Ilse leaves to marry Perry (another old friend). Teddy comes and tells her that he loves her and they finally get married.

Like I said, I didn't like the ending. It sped up way too quickly but it's still a pretty good book.
Because of the ending, I give this book four and a half stars instead of five.
