Very Good Compilation | Posted September-26-2008
Unlike her GREATEST HITS album releasing this October, this release actually includes her greatest songs. They could have included "Lamb of God", "Stand", "Don't Worry", "You're the Voice", "Speak to Me" and others, but all around it's a good collection worth buying.
Nice Sampler for NewComers. | Posted November-09-2008
Like her 8 Great Hits release, this CD is a nice sampler for newcomers to her music. It's better than the 8 Great Hits, because the tracklist is updated, but it's weird that they left out "Reborn" and "Alive". Diehards don't buy, newcomers, this may be a treat for you.
Wonderful Debut! | Posted May-19-2008
This CD proves pureNRG will be the next Jump5! I LOVE the songs "Live My Life For You", "Pray", "When I Get to Heaven", "Summertime" and "360". For fans of Miley Cyrus, this CD also includes the hit songs "Footloose" and "What If".
Bad! Bad! Bad! | Posted December-11-2007
The way Record Labels make money these days is just down right ridiculous. They release albums that have no meaning, hoping people will buy them! And it's sad to say that Christian music veteran Rebecca St. James' record label has done just that. With the new series, The Early Years labels are advertising albums with artists earliest hits. No new songs. No new pictures. No new anything. And do they... Well I'll save that for later, I'll let you read on.
The album starts out with 4 singles from Rebecca's self titled debut. As far as early hits go "Here I Am", "Side By Side", "Little Bit of Love" and "Above All Things" work perfectly. They were all hit radio singles back in 1994. The songs from her sophomore album, God, are a tad bit more questionable. While "God" and "Go & Sin No More" were both big hits for Rebecca, I don't remember "You Then Me" ever being released to radio. So does that make it a hit? No.
And it gets even worse. Two of her songs from her third album Pray, featured here are not hits!!! Sure Pray was a big hit, but "Hold Me Jesus" and especially "Love to Love You" were not. So now, not only do they make pointless CD, but the song selection is pointless as well.
If I were you and I owned Rebecca's albums I would just steer clear of this album. And if you're a newcomer looking into her music, buy her greatest hits album Wait For Me The Best From. Not only does it include 8 more songs, but all the songs are actually hits! Hopefully, we'll see no more of these albums in the future.
Okay Best of Album | Posted December-11-2007
For over a decade, Christian music phenomenon Jaci Velasquez has been singing her way to fans hearts all across the globe. With 2 Gold albums, a Platinum album, numerous Latin Grammy and Dove Award Nominations and 16 No 1 hits, does her newest Greatest Hits album serve up the "best" with only 1 disc, or should it have had 2?
Opening with the moving ballad, "On My Knees", you can't help but worship God in this beautiful song. The Spanish flavored "Un Lugar Celestial" and the soft "Imagine Me Without You", lead into the upbeat and fun "Every Time I Fall". The next track is the beautiful "God So Loved", which is based off of the Bible verse John 3;16.
While her first three albums are represented here with around 3 to 5 songs, her latest albums, Unspoken and Beauty Has Grace are distastefully shunned, with only 1 from each record. Where's Unspoken's biggest hits like "You re My God" and "Jesus Is". Or Beauty Has Grace's hits "Tonight" and "With All My Soul". That's probably one of the worst aspects of the album: an extreme lack of hits. Where is "Flower In the Rain" or "Glory" or "Crystal Clear".
The album also fails to show off any new songs. Sure, there's some compilation songs like, "I Will Rest In You" and "God Loves You", but no new material is present.
While, On My Knees definitely shows off some of Jaci's biggest hits, it also fails to include some of her best know songs. This project should have been, hands down, a 2 Disc collection. But, I guess you can't please everyone.
Wonderful Sophomore CD | Posted December-11-2007
Since 1993, Rebecca has wowed fans with her amazing vocals, outstanding lyrics and amazing stage presence. Garnering numerous Dove Awards, a Grammy and 2 RIAA Certified Gold albums, Miss St. James has kept her fan base strong and mighty. And her sophomore album God is the album that did just that. In 1994, her self titled album got some attention and a tour, but it was this album that made critics and fans whip their heads away from Amy Grant and to Rebecca.
The rock flavored, drum driven title track is the perfect opener. With soft, long verses and a rocking, vibrant chorus, "God" is sure to surprise but please the fans that have come to know Becca. The remakes of the hit song "You're the Voice" is much different than the John Farnham version, but works well on the album. The cliched "You Then Me" is a fun song, but has a kindergarten lyric, if you know what I mean.
The two best tracks period on the album, "Speak to Me" and "Abba (Father)", though very different, are beautiful worship songs. "Speak To Me" has a wonderful, haunting acoustic guitar, while "Abba" contributes a fun, pop/rock sound. The repetitive "Me Without You", like "You Then Me", is clichéd and gets boring after a while. While they both have good messages, "That's What Matters" and "A Cold Heart Turns" are both soft, slow songs that feel like they're 2 hours long. "Carry Me High" is a fun, upbeat song complete with a cute choir of kids and a cameo appearance from her brother, Josh.
The album closer, "Go & Sin No More" starts out with a soft piano that puts you in the mood for a ballad. But don't stay in that mood for too long, because by the 2nd chorus, the song features full background vocals and drums, that make it sound like this phenomenal radio hit is a completely different song than the one you were hearing one minute ago. All in all, God is a wonderful sophomore album. Even though it kinda has an up and down feel to it, it's rock core is what appealed to the fans and put Rebecca on the Christian Music Map.
Very Good. | Posted December-11-2007
Leading up to the release of Rebecca's critically acclaimed album, God, ForeFront put out books, merchandise and this single. Over the last couple years it has become very rare, occasionally popping up on Amazon or eBay. And I am one of the very lucky people to have a physical copy of this single.
It starts out with the lead single and title track of the album, "God". A rock based track with long verses and an edgy chorus, "God" talks about the amazing love God has for us and how astounding it is that God actually sent his Son to die for us and why we should praise Him for that. The remix of "God" tones down the song with a very acoustic sound to it. Light drums and guitar carry a slower beat than the original.
The fun, worship song "Sweet Song of Salvation" has a very black gospel sound to it, complete with a full choir... a sound very different than the normal RSJ. The almost 7 minute "Side By Side Remix" gives a very different view on the song. While the original had a very tacky, clichéd sound to it, the remix flaunts a fun techno beat with scattered vocals.
The album closer is the strangest attribute to the album. "He Is Exalted" is completely sang by a Celtic artist Michelle Ray, while Rebecca speaks for a about 30 seconds in the beginning. A boring and weird song to include. Overall though, the single gives the listener a peek into the amazing music coming from Rebecca in her sophomore album.
Land of Liberty, Honor God, America! | Posted December-11-2007
Since the age of 16, Rebecca St. James has been writing empowering lyrics for today's teenagers. Now with the digital release of America, Rebecca shares with her fans a beautiful song about the beauty of this country.
The song "America" is one of the most beautiful songs Rebecca has ever recorded. With the pop/rock background flowing behind her vocals, Rebecca chants the words Honor God, America / The Land of the free / Honor God, America / O Land of liberty / Honor God. The song literally left me speechless.
The following track, "I Thank You", which was released on her Greatest Hits album back in Spring 2003, is wonderful addition to this Patriotic EP. Almost as if she's thanking the soldiers for what they've done, Rebecca shines in this vibrant, upbeat song. The EP closer, "Yes, I Believe In God", is another of my favorite RSJ songs. I almost start crying every time she sings the bridge, You said, "If any man comes after Me / He must deny himself, take his cross and follow after Me" / So here I come after You / Knowing when my life I lose / You give Yours in return / You give Your new life in return.
It may only be 3 songs, but this EP is worth checking out, because it shows how much Rebecca honors God and this country. The picture of that in my mind, when I listen to these songs is beautiful.
Best Album Ever... Period. | Posted December-10-2007
Rachael Lampa never ceases to amaze me. This album should have won a Grammy. I especially like the songs "When I Fall", "All This Time" and "The Art". This album should be in every one's home and car stereos!
