Wonderful Sophomore CD | Posted December 11, 2007
Since 1993, Rebecca has wowed fans with her amazing vocals, outstanding lyrics and amazing stage presence. Garnering numerous Dove Awards, a Grammy and 2 RIAA Certified Gold albums, Miss St. James has kept her fan base strong and mighty. And her sophomore album God is the album that did just that. In 1994, her self titled album got some attention and a tour, but it was this album that made critics and fans whip their heads away from Amy Grant and to Rebecca.

The rock flavored, drum driven title track is the perfect opener. With soft, long verses and a rocking, vibrant chorus, "God" is sure to surprise but please the fans that have come to know Becca. The remakes of the hit song "You're the Voice" is much different than the John Farnham version, but works well on the album. The cliched "You Then Me" is a fun song, but has a kindergarten lyric, if you know what I mean.

The two best tracks period on the album, "Speak to Me" and "Abba (Father)", though very different, are beautiful worship songs. "Speak To Me" has a wonderful, haunting acoustic guitar, while "Abba" contributes a fun, pop/rock sound. The repetitive "Me Without You", like "You Then Me", is clich├ęd and gets boring after a while. While they both have good messages, "That's What Matters" and "A Cold Heart Turns" are both soft, slow songs that feel like they're 2 hours long. "Carry Me High" is a fun, upbeat song complete with a cute choir of kids and a cameo appearance from her brother, Josh.

The album closer, "Go & Sin No More" starts out with a soft piano that puts you in the mood for a ballad. But don't stay in that mood for too long, because by the 2nd chorus, the song features full background vocals and drums, that make it sound like this phenomenal radio hit is a completely different song than the one you were hearing one minute ago. All in all, God is a wonderful sophomore album. Even though it kinda has an up and down feel to it, it's rock core is what appealed to the fans and put Rebecca on the Christian Music Map.

GOD- What more is there to say? | Posted October 23, 2007
One of my all-time favorite Rebecca albums, right behind Transform. There are no filler tracks here, and each song is unique in its own way. As this released in 1996, the '90s rock sound is very evident. However, it is 2007, and I still love it! I actually didn't buy this cd until last year when I was trying to fill my RSJ collection and stumbled upon this album that I couldn't believe I didn't have yet.

GOD starts out with the rockin' title track, which I've heard is one of RSJ's signature songs, reaching #1 for several weeks. It starts out soft and sweet with a Native American flute intro and the soft first verse, before belting out the chorus and the remainder of the song is flat-out '90s rock. "You're The Voice", "You Then Me," "That's What Matters," "Me Without You," "Carry Me High," and "Go And Sin No More" are all mid-tempo rockers with a steady pace. "Speak To Me" and "Cold Heart Turns" are the ballads of the album, and are some of the best RSJ ballads ever! "Abba" has more of a contemporary feel to it.
