Shannon started singing at the age of 4 and has really never stopped! To fully understand Shannon's journey from her early years of performing on stage with several bands and musicians in small clubs in Northern California to Christian Recording Artist, it's essential to recognize the importance of the 14 -year layoff. After marrying Craig in 1995, Shannon subsequently became the mother of 4 beautiful children over the next 12 years. Sawyer (12), Kyler (8), Wren (3) and Brecken Faye (1) are the focal point of her life and all are home schooled by Shannon. "This is really my Calling. More important than singing or any of that, it's my husband and our children. The most important thing I'll ever do is to help teach and train our kids in the Lord. To love Him and to love others as He has loved us." says Shannon.
Music is a gift the Lord gave her though, and after sharing her voice at church services and amongst friends and family she was discovered by Tate Music Group in 2008. "Craig had bought me a gift certificate for a few hours of recording time at a local studio for Christmas and I laid down three tracks for fun. A few days after that, we sent it off to see if anything would come of it."
Trinity Tate was working in the Artist Acquisitions Department at Tate Music Group at the time Shannon submitted her demo. "I found her voice to be crisp and powerful, yet soothing and beautifully hypnotic, "said Trinity, "It was a blessing listening to the samples she'd submitted." TMG immediately offered her a recording contract and after much prayer, Shannon signed with Tate Music Group and started down the journey of recording artist. "It was such a relief and a comfort to me that Tate was a strong Christian organization. They really opened their arms to me and made me feel like a part of the family", said Shannon.
In her debut album, My Life Story, Shannon shows a powerfully diverse vocal range and strong songwriting abilities. "Writing my own songs was a huge leap for me since I'd never done so in the past, and all I can say is that the Lord delivered these melodies and lyrics. He truly brought the songs to my heart and mind. I did work with some really gifted producers and composers at TMG as well. " The title track is a clear example of what Shannon describes as a Divine intervention. "In the beginning, I was just free singing into my digital recorder and the chorus came to me, but that was about it. It wasn't until I was grappling with completing the last song that Craig told me: ‘You know, it sounds like a thank You to the Lord…that’s the song’. So I prayed about, it and He delivered the rest of the song to me. It’s amazing the way everything just fell into place, and to me it's more evidence of how close the Savior is to us in every moment of our lives."
"With Heroes and Knaves it was another indicator that I was along for the ride and God was driving! There are several beautiful songs out there for Fathers and Daughters like Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses and Steven Curtis Chapman's Cinderella but not a lot for Mothers and Sons. The song was really close to being complete when an Aunt on Craig's side sent an email to congratulate me on signing with TMG. In it she mentioned she really would love if I could write a song that she could dance with her only son to on his wedding day. I was just stunned and immediately shared with her God's plan for her request."
"Broken Chains was another song that was amazing to write and to sing because it really comes from a place of struggle but ultimately victory in Christ. I love singing that song because it feels like a kick in the teeth to the enemy of our souls! My 3 year old just about screams along with that one!"
"My main hope for this album is really to further His kingdom and in so doing, to bring all Honor and Glory to Him. 1 Corinthians 10:31 instructs: 'Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the Glory of God.' I know what happens within my heart and mind when I hear a song on the radio and it touches me deeply.
My prayer is that one of my songs might do that for someone out there, and that they would come to know the Author of All. If the Lord would choose to use me at all in that…well, I don't have the words."
