Worship pastor and songwriter Jon Reddick carries a deep passion for the Church. Throughout his career, he has intentionally crafted songs that speak of redemption and hope—truths that resonate across cultures and a generation longing for healing. His album No Fear followed the success of the title track, declaring, “No fear, the light of the world makes the darkness disappear.” Building on that promise, the album’s songs remind us that we were not made for this world. As followers of Jesus who place all our hope in Him, we can sing “not over my life” and confidently proclaim, “Yea, though I walk through the valley, I will have no fear.”
No Fear is a remarkable collection of honest and heartfelt expressions of faith. The songs are moving and impactful, with intense emotion and purpose. This album makes me reflect on how I’m living out my faith. Every song fully engages me as a listener to join in praise, worship, and adoration. These passionate songs are sung with genuine vocal sincerity and reverence, featuring biblically based lyrics. The songs will surely resonate with listeners and highlight Jon ‘s blend of vocal tenderness and lyrical depth, along with beautiful, inspiring musical arrangements and hopeful messages.
We all experience fear, worry, and anxiety at some level—and God knows that about us. Scripture reminds us 365 times with phrases like “do not fear” and “do not worry”—a daily reminder to shift our focus away from ourselves and instead find satisfaction in a fresh filling of God’s Spirit each day. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Jon about that very concept, in his hit song, “No Fear.”
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
Fear had been debilitating me for so long that I couldn’t even trust the people I knew I could trust. Emotionally, I kept everyone at a distance and didn’t let people into my life at all. Honestly, that has been my story since childhood—I’ve been carrying fear my entire life.
In time, I found myself on a journey to discover what it means to be set free from that fear. By last summer, the record was finished, but I was still navigating the process of chasing fear down. I realized it’s going to be an ongoing journey as we all try to lay aside the things that weigh us down.
I remember telling the label, “I know the record is done, but if you’d allow me to reflect on what I’ve been walking through—and capture some of the things I’ve learned in real time—I think there might be another song to come out of it.”
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Exodus 14:13-14 (NLV): “But Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid! Be strong, and see how the Lord will save you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you. All you have to do is keep still.”
Deuteronomy 31:6(NKJV): "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."
2 Chronicles 20:15 (NIV): He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
1 John 4:18-19(NKJV): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us."
Isaiah 41:10(NKJV): "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
Hebrews 11:1(NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
Philippians 4:6-7(NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
2 Corinthians 10:2-5 (NIV): “I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Romans 8:11 (VOICE): “If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you.”
What is the takeaway message?
I believe fear has been holding us down for a long time—many of us, for most of our lives. I think fear lies at the very crux of the brokenness in our world. But I also believe our hope is in Jesus. He doesn’t help us escape or go around fear; He helps us move through it. So my prayer is this: that fear would not have the final say over your family, over your future, or your life.
Lyrics
I got enemies at every side It ain’t looking good, I ain’t gonna lie Arrows flying, devil’s trying To make me think I’m going down this time You might think that I’d be afraid Running scared with a shaken faith But the God I know says it ain’t over The God I know is gonna make a way
Yeah, though I walk through the valley I will have
No fear, no fear The mighty power of Jesus Is fighting for me here No fear, no fear The light of the world Makes the darkness disappear No fear Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
No fear when I’m walking through the fire ‘Cause I know who’s walking me through No fear when the floodwaters rise If I got my eyes on you
No fear, no fear The mighty power of Jesus Is fighting for me here No fear, no fear The light of the world Makes the darkness disappear No fear Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
Not over my family, not over my future Not over my life, God’s over my life Not over my battles, not over my struggles Not over my life, God’s over my life
Yeah, though I walk through the valley I will have
Closing Thoughts
When I first heard this song, I loved its chorus and instantly catchy theme. The entire album is filled with overwhelming biblical truth. With each repeated listen, the songs reach deeper into the heart, reminding us of the comforting messages of Scripture: God is love, and we love because He first loved us. These songs inspire joy and call us to worship loudly in response to God’s love in our lives.
At its core, Jon hopes to pass on the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. He invites us to allow the Holy Spirit to “cast the light of life into your mortal bodies.” The theme of this song reflects the heartbeat of every faithful Christian. Its message, rooted in Scripture and deeply relatable, declares:
“No fear, no fear The mighty power of Jesus Is fighting for me here No fear, no fear The light of the world Makes the darkness disappear.”
This powerful anthem points us to the victory we already have in Christ—victory over our battles, even before we know the earthly outcome—because we trust that God goes before us and that He wins.
With this assurance, we can face our daily struggles with greater courage and strength, knowing that whatever the outcome, God is faithful to His promise in Romans 8:28: “God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Ultimately, this song becomes a daily prayer—asking God to change our hearts and lives so completely that everything we do flows from His presence within us as believers.
I have adopted this anthem as my daily prayer: “Not over my family, not over my future/Not over my life, God’s over my life/Not over my battles, not over my struggles/Not over my life, God’s over my life.” Amen to that.
