For those who are just now discovering BLVRS, how would you introduce yourselves and this project?
Owen: BLVRS is a collaborative project between Jordan and me, and the goal is to establish a sense of community. The Bible calls us to support one another and build each other up, and we want BLVRS to reflect that within the music space. More than just being about us, it's about Christ and the broader Christian community. We're bringing a fresh sound to Christian pop, making music that resonates while staying true to biblical truth.
Jordan: Yeah, and to add to that, our music leans toward youth groups and a younger audience, but it's really for anyone. Before we officially started BLVRS, a lot of our collabs were already making waves in youth group playlists. So, we wanted to lean into that space intentionally while also making music that's fun and engaging for people who may not yet believe--something that makes them ask, "What is this about?"
You both had your own solo careers before BLVRS. How did this collaboration come together?
Jordan: It all started through a mutual connection with Matthew Parker, a well-known name in the Christian EDM space. He added Owen to this secret group chat, and then one day, he messaged me and said, "Jordan, you need to follow Owen." I did, and soon after, Owen reached out for a collab. That song, "Get This Right," was our first project together in 2021. Then in 2022, we made "More Than Life," and that was the one that really took off.
Owen: Yeah, "More Than Life" started getting radio play, especially in Canada, and it became clear there was an audience for this sound. The next year, we did "Won't Let Go," which performed really well from the start. That's when Jordan hit me up and asked, "Why don't we make this something consistent?" And that's how BLVRS was born.
Your new EP, Behind the Scenes, has been making an impact. What's the heart behind it?
Jordan: The whole EP tells a story about God's presence in our lives. Each song is placed intentionally to take listeners on a journey. Behind the Scenes reminds us that God is with us at all times. "Forever and Ever" talks about how, despite our flaws, He still calls us His own. "Into Your Arms" highlights God as our refuge in difficult times, leading into "Just in Sight," which reminds us that His faithfulness will always prevail. Finally, "Ups and Downs" ties everything together--we go through highs and lows, but God is always by our side.
Owen: What's cool about this project is how much it reflects the Psalms. A lot of the themes in these songs parallel King David's experiences--crying out to God, trusting in Him, and seeing His faithfulness time and time again. It's about making music that's both relatable and grounded in scripture.
Do you each have a favorite song from the EP?
Owen: It's tough to choose, but I'd say "Forever and Ever." When Jordan sent me the pre-chorus, I literally started crying. The lyrics--"I am chosen, I'm saved, nothing can take that away"--just hit me. It's such a powerful declaration.
Jordan: For me, it's "Just in Sight." Writing that chorus was a struggle, but once I got it, the whole song clicked. It's a reminder that we only see what's in front of us, but God sees the bigger picture. It's a message I constantly need in my own life.
Christian pop and EDM aren't always front and center in Christian music. Where do you see this genre going?
Jordan: I think Christian music is evolving in a good way. Artists like Josiah Queen are proving that you don't need to follow a formula--you just make great music that glorifies God. There's no one "Christian sound"--Christian music is just music that talks about the Lord. And honestly, I think more songs should be explicitly about Him.
Owen: Agreed. God gave us music as a form of expression, so why limit what Christian music can be? Our goal is to make the best art possible, to push creativity, and to create music that reaches people in unexpected ways.
What's next for BLVRS in 2025?
Owen: A lot more music! We're aiming to release singles regularly--maybe even bi-weekly at some point. We also want to explore different styles, from pop-punk elements to acoustic sounds, all while keeping the BLVRS sound.
Jordan: Yeah, and we're also looking to collaborate with more artists. So expect some exciting features coming up!
How can we be praying for you guys?
Owen: Just for God's provision--for time, energy, and financial stability as we balance this with other projects. Also, for boldness in sharing the gospel beyond just our music.
Jordan: That God would open the right doors and close the wrong ones. There are so many possibilities ahead, and we just want clarity and wisdom in making the right choices.
