Through stillness, we learn to recognize what God is doing in and around us. Stillness is both active and passive. It involves allowing God to refocus our vision and tune our ears to His voice while we give Him the noise inside us. I’ve struggled with stress and anxiety, so I take up walking as a stress management and wellness activity daily. I also listen to songs that move me while walking as music therapy.
I created a comprehensive playlist on Apple Music featuring many Christian songs inspired by the following scriptures.
The songs on this playlist connect to these Bible verses.
Psalms 94:19 (NKJV): “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”
Exodus 14:14 (NKJV): “You provide the light for me to follow. You lift my head when I am afraid to look up. You are the morning star encouraging me to keep going, knowing that a new day is on the horizon.”
2 Chronicles 20:17 (NIV): “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.”
You can listen to these songs based on the perspective of walking into a battle, already aware that God owns it. I’ve compiled this list of seven songs, which have all been featured as behind-the-song devotionals. Please share any songs that have ministered to you as songs to walk to. God bless.
“Walk with Jesus” by Consumed by Fire
This powerful song blesses you with a convicting declaration: “I’m gonna live the way He says to live/Do what He says to do/You can choose whatever road you choose/But I’m gonna love the way He says to love/Trust the way He says to trust/This world alone will never be enough/So I’m gonna walk with Jesus.”
The enemy constantly attacks our thoughts. We spend a lot of time worrying about many aspects of our lives. We need to let that go and let the Lord be our redeemer.
Jesus commands us to trust God's Word completely, no matter the circumstances. God's Word assures us that we can trust what God says about us, no matter how we feel about ourselves. If you've put all your hope and trust in Jesus, nothing can separate you from His love. God sees us as He sees His Son. He makes something out of nothing in each of us.
“God Help Me” by Unspoken
“God Help Me” from Unspoken is a great reminder to spend time reading His Word--the Holy Bible--and to have a relationship with Him in prayer. No matter your circumstances, you need to remember and pray, "God help me now/Feels like there's no way out/But Jesus You're faithful and able/And You've never once let me down/God help me now."
God is still writing our stories of redemption. He wants us to know that He is faithful in completing what He has started in all of us who have put our hope and trust in Jesus for salvation.
You can rest upon the wise words in Romans 8:31: "If our God is for us, who can stand against us?" Nothing can separate us from His love. For the Son has risen, and sin and death are conquered. As His children, we can all rest in the knowledge that we can fully trust in our God and lean not on our own understanding.
We’re united in our struggles, spiritual warfare, and desire for truth and relationship. The Lord wants us to spend time with Him every day.
“Man on the Middle Cross” by Rhett Walker
“Man on the Middle Cross” from Rhett Walker has a salvation message, and it moves me to reflect on how much Jesus endured for His bride to purchase us from the grave.
This is a great song to express our commitment to running the race well as believers and not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sing along and proclaim these words as a prayer for salvation for our hurting world: "The cross is where He went/But that ain’t where He stayed/He brought me back to life when He rose up out of that grave/Someday I’ll stand before Him/And I’ll See Jesus face to face/I’ll worship and adore Him/For a life forever changed.”
You can decide to admit you’re a sinner, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and came to die as a sinless Savior on our behalf, and choose to make Him the Lord of your life. It's about submitting ourselves to Him and His goodness and allowing His blood to cover us and run through our veins.
“By His Wounds” by David Leonard
“By His Wounds” by David Leonard has an important message: there is always hope. Breathe it like oxygen, and God will turn whatever you're going through into something different for His glory. I hope you feel the same joy and hope in Christ expressed in this song. Remember these truths, "On that old rugged cross, where my Savior bore my scars/Perfect love destroyed my fears."
Gratefully accept God's love. It's something you can freely receive from accepting Him as your savior. This song gives words to express gratitude. It's a reminder to sing to God: "My debt's been paid in full; there's no more ransom/There's forgiveness flowing freely from His hands/By His torn-up flesh and bone He is redeeming/And a sinner is no longer who I am."
“Made for More” by Josh Baldwin
We all believe lies about ourselves. We also have an enemy who doesn't like us. He has a voice and speaks to us, but the voice of God's Agape Love speaks louder.
Too often, we get wrapped up in our circumstances and get down on ourselves with negative thoughts, allowing the enemy to define self-worth. Jesus died on the cross to set us free from the battle of our minds, from sin and death. He wants us to have an abundant life in Him. What a wonderful, encouraging truth.
Be free from those doubts about yourself and know with certainty from the lyrics of "Made for More" by Josh Baldwin: "‘Cause I wasn’t made to be tending a grave/I was called by name/Born and raised back to life again/I was made for more/So much more/Why would I make a bed in my shame/When a fountain of grace is running my way/I know I am Yours/And I was made for more.”
“It Gets Better” by Josh Wilson
“It Gets Better” by Josh Wilson encourages us to see ourselves as God sees us. What a great message of redemption: grace is unmerited favor and gift. This song demonstrates contemporary artist Josh Wilson's ability to make concepts accessible in a moving three minutes. Be free from those doubts about yourself and sing out: "Don't be afraid/Cause God's not afraid/The maker of Heaven and Earth is making a way/Take a deep breath, He's not finished yet/Oh, this is not how it ends/This isn't forever/Hold on, it gets better."
I’ve read that God tells us 365 times in His Word, “Do not fear” or “Do not worry.” That’s enough to remind us daily not to get caught up in our worries. Instead, we should be filled anew with God and His Holy Spirit daily.
“My Foundation” by Jordan St. Cyr
Inspired by God, contemporary artist Jordan St. Cyr writes and sings his breath into anointed new songs to uplift and encourage us. You will be blessed by “My Foundation,” which is a standout, upbeat anthem with a powerful message: “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord/As for me and my house we will serve the Lord/And this house will not be moved/Cause this house is built on You.”
Look for ways to obey God and offer your faith to Him. Read your Bible daily and get that reminder not to be afraid.
Sanctification—dying to sin more and living to righteousness more—is a continual, renewing work until it is perfected in glory. The main obstacle to this renewal is conformity to the world's ways.
