Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Sho Baraka feat. Amore Jones - "BE"
Experience Voices and RMG Amplify’s Sho Baraka released new music for the first time since July of 2022. Baraka refers to the track as cathartic, meaningful, and where his headspace currently resides while moving forward. The track was produced by Nate “The Beatbreaker” Robinson. Also, the single possesses significance since it’s tethered to a project curriculum established by a collective known as Experience Voices. They are a group of African American content creators who develop Bible-centered material for communities of color. Also, Baraka joined the team over at Christianity Today as the editorial director of the Big Tent Initiative. He may had taken a few years to grow, learn, and meditate on the purpose of God, but Baraka has made a strong definitive return to the culture impacting lanes left and right. Angie Rose - "In Case You Were Wondering"
Indie artist, songwriter, rapper, and vocalist Angie Rose returns with her first new music in over a year's time. This single is the first single released off of her forth coming EP titled, The Letters I Never Sent. The Bronx native has been on her inspirational, harmonizing grind as of late digging into untapped emotions experienced lately. The song focuses on how broken we can actually be on the interior when everything appears picturesque on the outside. The transparency contained within are topics rarely spoken from Christian artists, yet are greatly needed. People need to connect. They need to know they're not alone in their struggles. VANGUARDS 2 EP by Mic Wise x Trutha
Independent creative duo Trutha and Mic Wise teamed up with Scribe Music and Bill B. to form the collective known as The Vanguards. Often, these four gritty emcees pitch into the collective artistic works of another collective, The Listening Session (TLS). This EP included six total tracks, three of which have been released previously as singles. Honestly, these four artists are some of the most underrated and underappreciated creatives in the CHH space. Production efforts were also a group grind by Cyrus Sonata Bunkerboy & Vinny, YJO, and Wayne Klassik.
Favorites include “B.T.S.” featuring Scribe Music, “Make It Known” featuring Bill B., and “Breakthrough.” I love the return to the boom-bap era, as that sound is what molded my love for hip-hop in the early 1990s. The gritty, street-driven, ministry-focused content pushes hope, Christ, and artistry at its finest. Stream the Vanguards 2 EP on Spotify here.
