Remember back in 2020-2021 when tours and festivals were canceled? Some were postponed while others were permanently canceled. Sometimes perspective really changes things. As I look around in 2024, I see so much activity for rock and metal bands, and even festivals putting on awesome lineups. It's great to see the music scene active and alive, maybe even more so than before 2020.
What shows or bands have you been able to see this year? Got some festivals to attend this summer season? We'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, here are some of the new songs from May that you may have missed!
Earth Groans - "Chasm"
Earth Groans is a juggernaut in the hardcore music scene--every song they release is top-notch and heavy. Their newest single, "Chasm," is no exception. This one comes with an introspective message and great visual songwriting. Jeremy Schaeffer shares this about the song, "[It's] a parallel between a man and a canyon. The same way the years of weathering a river carves in the rock. The same way the trials wear a man. Left feeling disgusting, ugly, and unlovable. But he doesn’t realize those trials are what carves him into the beauty he is."
P.O.D. - Veritas
If you've been around the Christian rock scene for any decent amount of time, you've heard of P.O.D. But maybe it's been a few years since you've listened to them. Maybe that's partially due to the experimental albums they've released over the last few years, but they've returned to the hard rock/nu-metal fusion that they do so well. Veritas is prime P.O.D. with catchy choruses, hip-hop bars spitting fire, and faith-influenced confident lyrics. Whether you're looking for those sing-along songs or head-banging anthems, Veritas will hook you up.
PRDGMS - "Creator"
New York City-based metalcore band PRDGMS (pronounced paradigms) has unleashed their best song yet. Their goal as a band is to shift the paradigm of our lives toward a relationship with God, and their new song, "Creator" helps accomplish that well. The song begs the question to the listener, "do you know the Creator?" The song explores that the Creator is all around us in nature, yet we often blind ourselves to His existence with the busyness of life. Sonically, the song is fantastic. It's heavy and atmospheric. I hope we get more music like this from PRDGMS in the future, both musically and lyrically.
