Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
OnBeatMusic feat. Dillon Chase - "MAYBE" San Antonio native producer OnBeatMusic is gearing up to release his debut solo project. The first single of 2024 will be the second track to be included on the forth coming project. Dillon Chase is a long-time friend of OB and one of the slickest on the microphone. His art is pure and transparent and derives from a place of hope and influence from our Lord Most High. Chase wrote his contribution to the track while on a trip to Toyko to partner with Nevertheless Missions. It occured to him that settling for unbelief due to suffering only conforms grief as your master; not freedom. It's usually during those in between, "maybe" circumstances that God reveals answers to us when we're least expecting a revelation.
The track should be a guide for other artists of how songs sound when mixed and mastered properly and artistically. Chase's melodic delivery pieces perfectly with the flawless production of OB between the guitar chords, driving bassline, and rim shots. A sonic explosion occurs during the bridge which most would deem chaotic, but somehow it all meshes seamlessly with the overall vibe. This indeed is OB at his finest. Stream "MAYBE" on Spotify and Apple Music.
Aable - "Cloud of Witnesses" After releasing seven singles in 2023, Aable is back with his first release of 2024. During the SMOKE! 23 indie tribe. festival in August of last year, Aable performed a freestyle amongst the crowd. Now, he's taken those verses and finetuned them into a certified track for his upcoming EP. "Cloud of Witnesses" is some of Aable's hardest and most refined bars. The wordplay is of pure bliss.
Aable presents his defined art as one of the elite wordsmiths of CHH. His rhyme schemes, wordplay, and creativity between rival most. He said, "If you would rather seek pleasure and end up like Heath Ledger / ain't take God serious, now you dyin' a joker." Actually, this isn't even the best bars of the freestyle-like track. The production is top-notch too as I think it's in my top three of any single from 2024. The background harmonies, piano keys, switch up and an array of sonic dominance. Stream "Cloud of Witnesses" on Spotify and Apple Music.
Roy Tosh feat. Peabod - "Young Forever" (REMIX)
RMG Amplify's Roy Tosh and newly independent artist Peabod team up to remix the title track from Tosh's EP released in May of 2023. The track's content revolves around the time frame Tosh grew up in the 1990s. With his own children now growing up, there's a vibe of reminscing to nearly 30 years ago during his own childhood memories and dreams. Keep an ear out for mentions of pop culture icons from the 1990's as you listen through.
Peabod hops in on the second verse adding his own nostaligia from that treasured period of life. Production-wise a few added electronic and percussion elements may be heard, otherwise everything remained true to sound from the original. Both Peabod and Tosh have a similar flow, so the inclusion of him on the remix just make sense sonically speaking. Stream "Young Forever" (REMIX) on Spotify and Apple Music.
