Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Marty (of Social Club Misfits) feat. McKenna Johns (of The Young Escape) - "IN MY ROOM" Half of the dynamic duo known as Social Club Misfits, Marty drops his first new music of 2024. Previously, Marty has released two Marty For President projects in 2015 and 2020 respectfully. Few remember the two prequel solo projects Marty also released titled, When Darkness Falls and Please Don't Make Me Look Bad in 2011. Collectively, Marty and Fern have released 20-plus projects in a 15-year span. As always, Marty handcrafts art with purpose.
"IN MY ROOM" is a captivating blend of hip-hop and pop sounds exploring the depths of personal spirituality while inviting listens to forge a deeper and more intimate relationship with God. Infectious melodies and thought-provoking lyrics combine as an uplifting anthem transcending traditional religious experiences. After recently moving to Los Angeles, California in 2023, Marty and his wife struggled to find a home church. The track explores being able to worship at home, in a room, rooted already with a strong faith walk patiently waiting for God to open the next door.
Personally, this single has captivated my own heart and perspective and gave my own worship life a renovation. The content pushes thoughts into self-evaluation of what is church to you and to me. Do we need all the "smoke in mirrors" to worship? McKenna Johns (of The Young Escape) adds her own angelic voice and seasoning brewing this track into an instant favorite. Ty Brasel - "Perfect Peace" Newly independent Tennessee rapper Ty Brasel presents his first new music of 2024. Similar to the CHH heavyweights within the genre, Brasel seems to mature stronger within his lyrical delivery and tone. The words flow flawlessly from his lips as he relays how good God is regardless of the situation or the personal struggle. The track was mixed and mastered by Brasel and Dirty Rice as well as produced by Main. The song has a particular calmness protruding outward. Listeners can just close their eyes, worship, and appreciate Brasel's vocal art communicated. Stream "Perfect Peace" on Spotify and Apple Music.
WHAT HAPPENED TO KJ-52 by KJ-52
CHH icon, KJ-52 returns with yet another dope project for his devout fanbase. KJ began a Kickstarter campaign (due to the hefty personal cost a project demands) and within only a few weeks, the project was fully funded to the tune of over 160%. As expected, KJ has a loyal fanbase due to his influence on the culture for over 25 years. He's just celebrated four years of being on staff at Christian Life Fellowship Church in Cape Coral, Florida. However, he still finds the time to display his historic emcee skills providing constant new music for the people.
The project was fully produced by Marty of the Social Club Misfits. It contains seven tracks with an eighth bonus track. Marty helped remind us of what hip-hop is, that boom-bap, drum-heavy, sample driven artistic beauty. KJ adds his own intimate and personal transparency, revered flow, as well as a delivery every day one KJ fan knows and loves. My favorites include "Better Than You," "Follow You," and "WHERE YOU BEEN KJ (Remix)." As many know, I was introduced to HHH/CHH by hearing Collaborations by KJ in 2002.
