YP aka Young Paul feat. Braille and Ayo Shamir - "SHORT DIVIDENDS"
This single signifies the fourth song released in 2023, however, YP aka Young Paul also released two albums this year. One of South Bronx finest emcees, YP is bringing "gritty hiphop" to the ears of believers and non-believers alike. The latest song revolves around the teachings of 1 Timothy 6:10 discussing the love of money. Far too much bloodshed and violence has occured based on the greed, love, and lust for money. YP and CHH veteran Braille speak on how a glorious life can be achieved without an abundance of cash flow during our shortened life on earth.
After an explanation of the track's orgin and a short chorus, Braille starts things off proper aligning biblical principles to practical living. YP enters with golden bar after bar exhibiting some of his finest work to date. This track belongs in the mid-90s as boom bap bops feel revived. This is a single to remain on repeat far into 2024. PLAY! by Peabod
Seattle's own independent rapper and songwriter Peabod debuts his first album since departing from Centricity Music last year. The 11-track project features all eight previously released singles sprinkled with a few new happy raps to close out 2023. The concept of the album challenges listeners to simply, play. To experiment. To explore. To smile and enjoy each new experience. Tapping into your imagination even. The idea of "play" is something many adults have forgotten over the years of aging and with life weighing in.
Peabody has created a beautifully energetic, eclectic experience over 11 tracks. Peabod calls for nostalgia to engulf our memories and heart from childhood days of the past fast forwarding to the present. Some favorite tracks include "PINK LEMONADE," "MAGIC HOUR," and "START A BAND" featuring Aaron Gillespie. Listeners can expect a trip in a delorean escaping to times where happiness was common, tree houses were our home, and we all danced regardless of who was watching. The production included throughout feels free and remains atuned to Peabod's lyrical barrage of smiles on steroids. Also, he manages to sneak in some of the best bar-for-bar content to date.
