NRT uncovers the hidden world of year-long dressing up in Christian Music

NRT LISTS, Christian Artists Who Think It's Halloween Year Round

There are plenty of believers around the world who cringe at anything Halloween. It could be as innocent as Mickey Mouse dressed up in a cute little outfit, and it's still from the depths of hell. Already, in the third sentence, a few of you are preparing to send me into an internet rabbit hole of the history of the celebration of everything evil and horrible (or call us out on our "Christian" mask).

Please save your time. I'm not one of those believers.

There are corners of this "holiday" that I stay away from. Anything related to the occult, blood and gore, and freaky-looking clowns. I hate freaky-looking clowns.

But for the most part, Halloween is an excuse to have some fun with the kiddos, dress up in fun costumes, (this year, I'll be dressing up as Doc from Back to the Future, and my daughter is going as McFly), gorge way too much on candy,  and if I happen to get a jump scare a few times by evening's end, then that's just fine with me.

So in the spirit of having fun, here are a few artists in the Christian music space who need to be reminded that dressing up is for one day of the year, not 365.

CAIN
Taylor, Madison and Logan Cain are siblings who have quickly emerged as one of CCM's favorite bands, and one of the most recognizable thanks to their colorful, matching outfits. Their current tour is asking fans to come dressed in specific colors, so that not only the band can dress up, but the entire audience can join in the costume insanity as well.

Rend Collective
Every night on tour, the band would come out in their fan-favorite Panda outfits as a homage to their popular music video, "You Will Never Run," and let's be honest. Many of the masks that get busted out around this time of the year make you want to run anywhere. Immediately. But Pandas are cute, and friendly. So here we are. Every. Single. Night.

Skillet...And Every Other Christian Rock Act
Rockers love to dress up. It's a stage requirement to have wild and colored hair, over-the-top outfits, guy-liner, and head-to-toe tattoos. Needless to say, I'd fit right in. On Halloween only. Every other Christian rock act makes it happen year-long, and that takes some serious commitment. Skillet gets a shout-out here simply for their Halloween-themed covers like this one, and this one

Family Force 5
There wasn't a band like FF5 before them, and there hasn't been a band like them since. They were BZRK, cray, completely unique, and we ate up every single minute of it. Especially when Soul Glow brought out those Hulk hands. Talk about a costume that worked no matter the season. But in the spirit of Halloween, we want to throw back some attention on Christian music's only video that can give "Thriller" a run for its money. Can someone reanimate this band, please?

These Artists
"So get this. A drag queen worship leader, a lesbian, and a straight man in a 40s dress and pearls walk into the Dove Awards..." I'd love for that to be a great set-up for a joke, and for all intents and purposes, it is. I won't name the artists here, because they are celebrating every single tweet, mention, and headline their desperate attention-getting stunt inspired, but I will gladly put them on a list of artists who think it's Halloween 365. Dressing up is fun until someone comes to the party in a weirdo outfit and makes the entire event awk.

Join the conversation here. Unless you want to throw our spirituality under the bus because we mentioned "Halloween."
