Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Datin feat. Marty (of SCM), Battz, and Jes Norris - "Found" God Over Money and Menace Movement's Datin returns with one of the singles from his forthcoming EP, Who do you believe? II produced by Social Club Misfits' Marty. Featured is Nashville's own young protege Battz and Menace Movement's label mate Jes Norris. Marty not only produced the track, but adds a unique vibe by handling the harmonizing for the hook of the single. The cover art was created by Angeloh inspired by a mainstream artist from the 1990's named C-Murder from Cash Money. Datin is using this project to bring back the classic boom-bap sound of the iconic 90s.
Datin and Battz handle the only verses on the track, while Jes Norris sprinkles her melodies over Marty's impressive vocals. The song proves God will find us in the roughest of situations to rescue and redeem us. Stream "Found" on Spotify and Apple Music.
Braille feat. A.I. the Anomaly - "Flex" For over two decades, Braille has been creating timeless hip-hop classics. "Flex" featuring newly independent female rapper A.I. the Anomaly is the first single off his forthcoming album. The track was produced by Wes Pendleton, an iconic producer in the CHH space. Everything about the track screams 90s hip-hop between the in-depth storytelling, the beat, and the samples used. As usual, the power of God and His Love is smothered through. The "flex" is God helping both A.I. and Braille overcoming challenging circumstances solely to praise our Lord Most High afterward. There's an adorable scripture reading midway by Mercy Cannon. I absolute love the injected use of violin played by Kumiko Bankson too. As usual, Braille is consistent and his bars are as solid as ever. Stream "Flex" on Spotify and Apple Music.
Shepherd feat. Social Club Misfits - "BREAK THE RULES (PT. 1)" Independent Miami Latino rapper Shepherd is known for handcrafting motivational gym anthems recognized worldwide with placements in video games, national television and movies. The latest single featuring Marty and Fern of Social Club Misfits is no different. The track was produced by Bay Area's George.Rose. Uncorked energy is an understatement as this track is truly dangerous (to the body from vigorous movements). Immediately, I got 2004 vibes from Usher's party anthem "Yeah." Of the three emcees, Fern's witty wordplay, especially towards the end of his feature, stole the show. "When you make noise, they ask you for a permit," exclaims Fern. Indeed, this track should be played at unexcuseable loud volumes repeatedly. I can easily see this single being placed on all the major sports broadcasting networks. Shepherd has a winner with this one. Stream "BREAK THE RULES (PT. 1)" on Spotify and Apple Music.
