Contemporary band Far From Home, better known by their initials FFH, was a regular presence on Christian radio in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They didn't reach A-list iconic status like Third Day or Newsboys. But I'm surprised by how many of their songs I heard on Christian radio growing up. Their instantly recognizable upbeat sound is a signature of most of their hits. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ready to Fly, the 2003 album, let's take a moment to reflect on some of its significant contributions to Christian music.

"You Found Me"

Relentless upbeat, this song perfectly showcases the FFH sound. "You Found Me"
has clean driving guitars adding rock to the mix. Its accessible pop melodies keep it perfectly at home with the band's contemporaries on Christian radio in the 2000s. The singable tune proclaims how Christ finds us in our darkest places and brings us into the fullness of Himself. The song's relatable themes and bouncy sound makes it an instant highlight of the band's storied catalog.

"Ready To Fly"

While somewhat more reflective and reserved than the standard FFH hit, "Ready to Fly" lives up to its name and soars into anthemic territory. Proclaiming a weariness with complacency and "being grounded," the song expresses our longing to reach new heights and take flight. Serving as a worthy title track to the album, the song reminds us how the only true method to fly away from everything that brings us down is to give ourselves to Christ.

"Here I Am"

A true worship ballad, this song is slower than most of FFH's well-known songs. But the slower approach captures the feeling of surrender the lyrics invoke. Properly ending the album on a note of surrender, the song perfectly summarizes the album's themes of surrendering our lives to Christ and the true freedom and refreshment He brings to our lives.

These are some of our favorites from the album. What songs do you most treasure from Ready to Fly?
