Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
The Invitation EP by The Ambassador One of the founding members of the iconic CHH group The Cross Movement returns with a new EP. The Ambassador started making Christ-centered art over 25 years ago. This is his first project released since 2008. Equipped with a similar message, The Ambassador desires to invite non-believers into a relationship with Christ as well as make disciples out of men already bearing the armor of God.
Since the message remains unchanged, the style resembles The Ambassador of old. Gritty, street-worthy, yet laced with the love of Christ. The voice and flow take me back over two decades ago to a sound that helped me transition from mainstream rap to CHH. Favorites include "The Gospel," "Like A King," and "Give God the Praise." Production-wise, The Ambassador harnasses the typical trap sound dominating the genre still. A few surprises sonically exist pleasing to the listener's ears. I was pleased to see his return to the space, as his influence on the culture, sub-genre, and thousands of fans is unmatched. Cross Movement was the introduction to CHH for many, including myself. KB feat. Brandon Lake - "Graves" Sony Entertainment's KB and TRIBL Music's Brandon Lake link up for an incredible musical journey. On KB's last album released, His Glory Alone, he featured several favored worship tracks and flipped each with his own spice and flavor. This single is no different, as the duo takes a creative spin with Elevation Worship's "Graves Into Gardens." Like most of KB's lyrical skills, the metaphors and wordplay included are some of his best on display. The Lara Croft and Rick Flair references are elite. The production attributes are worthy of their own praise. The overall energy infusing worship and hip-hop never get old. This will stand out as one of my favorites from KB. Miles Minnick feat. EmanuelDaProphet - "Chokehold"
Bay Area up-and-coming rapper Miles Minnick releases another single from his forthcoming debut album, Holographic, dropping on November 11. The catchy little west coast vibe is classic Minnick. It's energetic, unapologetic, and putting his faith on blast. EmanuelDaProphet is featured, another newbie making waves. NK4 produced the track, as he's part of Minnick's GLO. Collective. The track spotlights how believers have the devil (enemy) in a "chokehold" when faith is on full display glowing for Christ. Stream "Chokehold" on Spotify here.
