Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Social Club Misfits feat. DJ Laz - "Who That Is" South Florida's dynamic duo Marty and Fern remind fans that everyone loves a great comeback story. Two years after their last album release (Feared By Hell), Social Club Misfits return with a new single and a forthcoming album next month (September). Paying homage to the Miami bass scene which dominated the 90s with artists such as Tag Team, 69 Boyz, 95 South, and Quad City DJs, the boys brought a late summer anthem heater in time for back-to-school cookouts with the assistance of DJ Laz. The hook and beat are infectious as Marty and Reach Records' Andy Mineo shared production credits on this single. It's a perfect "feel good" vibe as the Misfits prepare to release their next project titled, Everyone Loves A Comeback Story on September 30. Stream "Who That Is" on Spotify here.
Swaizy x Battz - "PLAY IT SAFE" Georgia's (Augusta) Swaizy and Tennessee's (Nashville) Battz exchange freestyle-themed bars on their latest collaboration single. These two independent rappers are respected as top tier in the CHH space. Neither artist has released their debut album, however, each murder absolutely every single and featured sixteen they're assigned. With an old skool boom bap beat pounding in the background, each rapper showcases their elite lyricism, witty wordplay, and ability to slay the pocket of the rhyme scheme. The track reminds fans their skill set is vicious and not to be disregarded. Personally, I'm a huge fan of both as their youth and mic dominance are quite inspiring. Who is Mark James? 3 by Bumps INF
God Over Money’s Bumps INF releases the third project in the Who is Mark James? mixtape series. The second mixtape was released in 2011, as the first was released a year prior in 2010. The Cleveland, Ohio resident’s mission is to see the lives of people transformed by the message of the Gospel through the vehicle of hip-hop music. He’s been signed to the GOM label for a decade’s time spitting faith-throttled lyrics with a unique hint of humor laid in the background.
The current and third mixtape is 10 tracks with a few label mates (Monster Tarver, Selah the Corner) joining his side. Even label owner Bizzle makes an appearance on the initial skit track. Bumps is the king of similes, metaphors, pop culture references, and pinpointed lyricism laced with transparency.
Favorite tracks include “1 G.O.A.T.,” “John Wick” featuring Selah the Corner, and “This Was Supposed 2BA Cypher.” When speaking of pure lyricism, few others do it better. As he mentions on the project, he can rap circles around most emcees. This will definitely contend for one of the best projects of 2022. Stream Who Is Mark James? 3 on Spotify here.
