Pop artist Tauren Wells has gained much success in recent years. He’s toured with the likes of Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey. He’s also won and been nominated for several awards (Grammy’s, Billboard, GMA Dove, you get the picture). He’s also built an impressive catalog of hits. Here are a few of them that you must include on your playlist.
“Famous For” (featuring Jenn Johnson)
Tauren and worship leader Jenn Johnson’s vocals blend beautifully in this artfully created worship melody. It is a declaration of the power of God and the reviving energy the lyrics hold is unparalleled.
I simply can’t hold myself back from singing along to this song. And I greatly admire the confidence with which these two Christ-followers sing their battle cry, "Shut the mouths of lions/Bring dry bones to life and/Do what You are famous for." Spoken from a place of truth, this song will resonate with listeners, as it did with me.
Side note: there’s an amazing Spanish version of this song that’s also a medley with Elevation Worship's hit song "Do It Again." I highly suggest listening to that version as well.
“Hills and Valleys”
This smash single will forever hold a special place in my heart as the first worship song I mastered on piano. I still remember the eagerness with which I shared that accomplishment with my parents. Even many years later, I know I could never shake the impact that the lyrics have had on me.
Tauren truly has a gift of condensing the extensive love of our Heavenly Father into an easy-to-digest song that still ultimately points the listener back to God.
"No matter where I go, Your grace is enough" is a line that flies with purpose alongside the catchy synth pad and light drum background. I believe it will remain a Tauren Wells classic no matter where the rest of his life takes him.
“Until Grace” (featuring Gary Levox)
As a whole, "Until Grace '' is a Jesus praising, vocal crushing radio hit. There’s a phrase in the tune that has been tugging at my heart since I first heard it. In this dynamically spectacular duet, country singer Gary LeVox sings, "I might be looking at a future full of question marks/But I don't have to have all of the answers if You have my heart." The song’s ability to weave such an essential truth into a fresh melody truly sets it apart, so I highly recommend watching the lyrics video to get the full experience.
“When We Pray”
The electronic beat that kicks off this hit will have you loving the song even before Tauren starts singing. When his voice chimes in declaring the power of prayer, it simply gains another level of depth.
The reminder of prayer is something we all need from time to time so I appreciate this song for consistently motivating me to spend time with my Jesus. The world truly does change when "the church starts praying." And I hope you will be inspired to begin crying out alongside me in faith. Tauren does an excellent job planting this inspiration. Now, it’s time to step back and let the Holy Spirit water it as we watch our prayers grow.
“Carry On”
I love the gentle piano that carries this song as Tauren sings of the strength of our God. Romans 8:31 very clearly states that "If God is for us, who can be against us?" This is a clearly represented truth in the second verse of this melody, so it is with this as background, that I stress how much I love the Tauren's integration of Scripture.
The weight of the world isn’t yours to hold. It stood out to me that Tauren asked God to carry on, rather than enhance his own personal stamina. We will never be strong enough to fight this world, but "Carry On" is a great reminder that we have a God who has already won that battle for us.
