TAYA is the solo project of Taya Gaukrodger, a songwriter and worship leader best known as the lead singer of the iconic worship band Hillsong UNITED. The voice behind major hits, most notably being, "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)," her awe-inspiring vocals strike a new chord with her debut self-titled album.

When speaking about the inspiration God provided her with before beginning this project, she shared that it was to be "like honey; sweet, palatable, easy to digest and has healing qualities." She certainly opened the door for God to breathe life into these melodies and I haven't stopped listening to them since the release date. I hope you gain a fresh understanding of Taya's heart and through that, the love of Jesus while reading about the following two songs.

"Getaway"

I know where you are
Where you've been, what you've seen
Doesn't matter how you come
Come and getaway with Me
Getaway, getaway with Me

I love how simply Taya states the choice to return to Jesus in this song. So often, I find myself straining to feel God's grace or peering hard around the next theoretical corner in life to see what's coming next. "Getaway" reminds me that I do not have to be caught up in the worries of the world; God is the perfect solution. More than just a respite, He is prepared to love you through the hurt, embody a soothing balm through the pain, and hold your hand through every new spark of the fire.

Throughout my relationship with Jesus, I have come back to Him in so many different ways. There have been tears in my lowest place, as I begged Him to just take me then. That's when He reminded me "I know where you are." There were moments of shame that cut me like a knife, edging its way in deeper and deeper before He solidified my guard, gently speaking over me that "Where you've been, what you've seen" is nothing compared to my power. Through it all, I truly have learned that it "doesn't matter how you come," God will welcome you with open arms all the same. I encourage you to find some quiet time and rest in the love of your Savior. There will never be a better getaway than the one He is offering us right now.

"Mercy"

I humbly come and bow on bended knee
For I know I can do nothing without Thee
Come pain, or grief, or hell
In You, all will be well

Jesus, who would we be without you? "Mercy" is such an incredibly contemplative song that it prompted this question within me several times as I floated through the flowing verses and beautiful chorus. The lyrics above are actually from the song's outro. I love how Taya uses that section to leave the listener with something to think about.

Humility is something I have yet to master as I am often yearning for recognition in most things I do. "Give credit where credit is due," am I right? Then, why do we not recognize the work of Jesus in our lives? We would be drowning in the dregs of the ocean if it was not for the mercy of our loving Father and that is not something to be taken lightly. The reason we are on this earth, thriving or not, is because we have a purpose to lift up the savior who first saved us. Keeping that as food for thought, let's transition into the final line of this song: "In You, all will be well." Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Let the lyric speak for itself. By the mercy of God, all will be well.
