The four men who make up Citizens are devoted to sharing the glory of God, a message made clear in their newest album. They have been releasing music since 2012 and to celebrate the success given to them by God, this record reimagines a previous one. It provides a live twist to their 2020 GMA Dove nominated album, "The Joy of Being."
Each band member evidently has a varied background, yet they have become skilled at blending together all their stories. It is this harmony of peace that carries their songs and I am grateful for the opportunity to dive into two of them below.
NEW: "Only Jesus Christ"
Who is the purpose of our days? Who is our hope that doesn't fade? Who is our courage and our strength? Who is the fullness of our faith?
Tuning out the world can be hard, believe me I know. But what if we don't have to? Jesus commands us to love and I often find myself trying so hard to protect my heart that I forget to share it with others. I urge you to read your Bible; it's something so important that I don't do often enough. In it you will find a reminder of Jesus's guiding principles; love and serve. They're simple, but easy to forget. Don't let this world get you down. You are a child of the Lord and have the almighty authority to speak life.
NEW: "All I Need"
With a beating heart In the simple-sighted faith Safe within your arms Quiet by the light of grace
Simplicity. Something we yearn for, but often find ourselves pushed away from by the world. We are consistently and forcefully told how much we need the next big thing. However, joy isn't derived from objects. Happiness is. I would much rather search a little harder for the source of forever peace than constantly bounce around from one temporary high to another. It is for that reason that I put so much effort into analyzing myself before I make a decision. I ask: Is it glorifying God? Will it further His kingdom? Is it sinful or pure? It doesn't have to be a frightening process, just a simple check to keep yourself on track. God has given up so much for us out of love; the least we can do in return is obey.
