Michael W. Smith is undoubtedly one of the most well-known artists in the Christian music genre and has been for almost four decades. His immeasurable faith in our Heavenly Father sustains his music with truth. His newest album, Worship Forever is no exception. It serves as a tribute not only to September 11, 2001 (which is also the day his previous album Worship released) but additionally, to God's awesome power.
Smith acknowledges what a hard time Covid has brought upon us all and then proceeds to remind everyone of God's never ending grace. The goodness of our King never falls short and that fact is greatly reflected in the two songs below.
NEW: "More Love, More Power feat. Tauren Wells"
And I will worship You, with all of my heart I will worship You, with all of my mind I will worship You, with all of my strength For You are my Lord
The renewed version of this classic features Tauren Wells, an appearance that drew me to the song. I pressed play expecting great things and I was not disappointed! I feel that the gentle piano scales accent each lyric, each promise the singer makes. "I will worship You, with all of my strength" is a verse that puts my life into perspective.
Coming from someone who despises being called out as incorrect, I know how hard to self-examine personal choices. But it is so essential to maintaining a strong relationship with our Creator. If we want to build on the foundation Jesus laid by dying on the cross, we have to put effort in; sometimes that requires being wrong. As difficult as it sounds, I promise it's not bad. Once we hand our mistakes to God and choose to worship with all of our heart, He takes over. He has paved the way, now we must listen to His guidance.
NEW: "Let it Rain"
Let it rain, let it rain Open the floodgates of Heaven Let it rain, let it rain Open the floodgates of Heaven
The symphonious feel created a very powerful experience of a song. I love the various instruments Smith has incorporated into such a simple chorus. All we're really saying is two phrases: "Let it rain" and "Open the floodgates of heaven." However, it could not be more monumental.
These lyrics serve as a desperate cry for God to enter into the moment, and they call for surrender. As Matthew 14:24-26 describes, we must deny ourselves and do it God's way. When I say "it," I mean everything. There is no part of your life that God can't move in; He wants to be invited into it all. The beautiful chorus of voices throughout this track makes me swell with joy. Only God can bring together such passion for this purpose, praising His name. I urge you to listen to this song and really mean what you're singing. He'll work in all areas of your life if only you let Him.
