I'm so glad Jordan Feliz released this song because the return of Jesus is a major part of our faith, but it's not talked about very much. With these lyrics, Jordan reminds us of our Christian hope and challenges us to learn more from God's Word about a topic you might not have had a chance to dive into yet.
So keep your head up/Jesus is coming back/Jesus is coming back/No, don't you give up/Jesus is coming back/Jesus is coming back
The Whole Salvation Story
Have you ever thought that the world has kinda lost its way?/Crazy as it seems, yeah I know it's gonna be okay/It doesn't scare me, it's temporary/There's something better, we got forever/And it won't be long 'cause we know our help is on the way
In Acts 3, the apostle Peter shares the gospel with a crowd of people gathered at the Temple. After telling them about who Jesus is and how to know Him personally through faith and repentance, he makes an interesting statement. "...And he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets." (Acts 3:21)
Peter lets us in on an important truth: the message of Jesus is about the work He would do in the world at both His first and second comings. Have you ever thought about that before?
The full gospel story isn't only about His promise of forgiveness and friendship with Him when we believe in Him. It's also about His promise to come back for His people and bring final restoration to all things in heaven and on earth.
We see the same concept in Ephesians 1:1-10 where the apostle Paul lays out God's plan of salvation. He talks about Jesus's first coming and about His future return to rule heaven and earth at His second coming.
Just Like He Promised
He's coming for us just like He told us/It's been a long wait but there's a new day/And we're gonna sing Hallelujah when the King arrives
This verse of the song in particular reminds me of Jesus' promise right before His death and resurrection:
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. (John 14:1-3 NLT)
What will it be like when Jesus comes back to restore all things? We won't know the full picture until that day, but God gives us some incredible promises to cling to in the New Testament, especially in Revelation 19-22.
Jesus will descend from Heaven on the clouds and gather His followers from around the world so we can be with Him where He is forever. Sin and suffering will be no more. The world will be filled with God's righteousness. The devil will be defeated once and for all. Jesus will live with His people and rule the whole world as King for eternity. We will worship Him forever.
I don't even have to ask if you know what it's like to feel grieved and frustrated at how broken the world is and to long for God's tangible healing and restoration. You probably feel that way about certain areas of your own life too; I know I do. As followers of Jesus, we all long to know and experience Him more closely every day.
As we just learned, God has a plan to fulfill those desires in our hearts that reaches into eternity, not just in the here and now. Jesus said it: there will come a day when we can look up, because our salvation is drawing near. (Luke 21:28) So keep your head up. Jesus is coming back.
