This was one of the first songs that Joey + I wrote together-- The idea is from John 14:27 where Jesus says: "My Peace i give you."
We were in our home studio in Kenosha (North Burbs, Chicago) making this beat and I got the piano idea and then just started singing lines for the chorus, pulling lyrical concepts ("You say: I give you My Peace") from the study of the Gospel of John that I was doing. The majority of that Chorus came together in about an hour.
The rest of the song ended up taking much longer; 2.5 years longer. We felt that our original idea was really special so we needed to take our time and really get it right. We'd write a verse, and it wouldn't feel right. So we'd throw it away and try another one, and another, and...
As an artist you wanna work quicker than that, -- but sometimes you have to just trust God's timing and allow the ideas show up when they show up.
It is my hope that these words, which come from a very real place, will resonate with listeners as a reminder of Jesus' Peace.
