‘Look Up’ is the debut single from worship leader Matt Beckingham.
The song is born out of the time in which it was written – Lent in lockdown 2021. A time where the darkness of lockdown has rolled on for so long. A time where the resurrection light may still seem far off.
‘Look Up’ expresses that throughout it all, the light is here, and it will not be overcome.
‘Look Up’ is an encouragement to see the light in those dark times, to feel it’s warm embrace, and to be assured that the ‘dawn will come, with the rising of Son’.
On a personal level, ’Look Up’ speaks into Matt’s own journey throughout the last year.
As a musician who prior to lockdown 1, was privileged to have a very busy schedule with internationally significant music organisations, Matt suddenly found himself with an empty diary as lockdown struck.
What was God calling him to do during this time?
Matt felt a call to serve the wider church in worship & song. As a Methodist, he felt a call to play a role in leading a movement ‘born in song’, further into a movement living in song, too. And so, Matt founded the National Methodist Choir of Great Britain, engaging with nearly 1700 singers from over 5 Continents. Matt also produced sung worship videos to be used by local churches in online worship, which have collectively been viewed 230,000 times on his YouTube channel over the last year.
Recorded in isolation in home studios, ‘Look Up’ is a coming together of musicians to celebrate that the light is here, and maybe, all we need to do is look up, and see it.
