A Noteworthy New Artist| Posted June 06, 2017
I am so glad that I peeped the latest from Eric Heron, because otherwise I would have slept on a promising artist. The Houston-native's new EP Dawn is available for purchase on both Amazon and iTunes. He has also offered it for free exclusively on Rapzilla.com.
"Be Me" clicks as a track that meshes the keyboards of a summer R&B song, dope snaps and that signature Houston slowed-down vocal chorus. Heron quickly establishes his quest to break the mold. The title track "Dawn" garnered quite a few listens when Heron initially released it earlier this year. It's a dance-worthy, radio-ready song featuring the vocals of ABIV. Up and coming rapper WHATUPRG also guests to lend his help.
"Whoa Now" is trap-heavy and really catchy. Heron sings an autotuned chorus, but his flow is nice on this one. He really showcases what he can do on "Switch It Up." Even with the rapid flip of the tongue, he was easy to understand. Heron only uses that style of rap sparingly before jumping back into his normal flow. "Time" has a great message, but it seems to fall a little flat in terms of production and the whole thing coming together.
The Bottom Line: Eric Heron is another artist to get you excited about the future. With more polishing, more resources to master his projects and continued growth, this young man will be a force to be reckoned with. Don't sleep on Eric Heron!
