Hauntingly Beautiful | Posted November 09, 2009
AS hard as this album is to hear, it must have been almost unbearable to write. Yet SCC does a beautiful job of honestly portraying his hurt, his questions, and his love of a God that has held him through a difficult loss. Only a songwriter of Chapman's talent could bring such issues to light in a way that is both agonizing and yet hopeful. His hurt as a father is palpable, but his faith in a mysterious God has been deepened. This is an album that deals with deep, real issues that are too often ignored by popular music; Steven Curtis Chapman has created an album that ministers on the most profound levels. As he writes in "Faithful": "I've dropped anchor on your promises and I am holding on, because You are faithful...I will sing it when the sun is shining, I will scream it in the dark...You are faithful." Heart-wrenching, but true, emotions on display.
