West Coast Revival (or WCR) started out as a youth band in 1997. The original band started out with Jonathan and Ryan Baird as the principal songwriters and leaders of the band with Zach Boomsma on drums and Sean Curran on bass. In 2004, Aaron Baird, the oldest brother of Jonathan and Ryan, moved to California and was added as the electric guitarist. Aaron Baird brought a wealth of experience having already recorded on several albums as well as having a song he co-wrote, Everlasting, featured as the title track on the SOvereign Grace Ministries album Everlasting in 1999.
For years WCR (prior to 2005 called Audience of One) had been active in their church and played around the country for youth retreats and conferences related to their group of churches, Sovereign Grace Ministries. Jonathan and Ryan continued to write songs for the band, several of which began to get more attention at Sovereign Grace Ministries. In 2003 their song Your Beauty and Your Magesty was featured on the album All That We Long to See, and Ryan also sang thelead vocals on the recording. In 2004 Ryan was invited back to sing three lead vocal tracks for the album Songs for the Cross-Centered Life. Continuing to write and progress as a band, WCR began to gain more interest from Sovereign Grace not only for their songwriting but also for their work as a band. In 2005 WCR was invited to Maryland to create a 5-song EP called Fuse, which opened the door for the band to create their first full-length album and further develop their relationship with writer/producer Steve Cook.
WCR's first full-length album, released in October 2006, was recorded at Citrus College in Azusa, California and was engineered by Tim Jaquette. It was mixed by Sam Gibson ( Who also mixes for Delirious?, Pearl Jam, Chris Tomlin and Newsboys) and mastered by the legendary Bob Katz. The project was co-produced by WCR and Steve Cook.
