Having a very traumatic beginning, Todd was born seven weeks early with not much hope of survival. Two years into his young life, his birth father deserted him and his mother, leaving them to make it on their own. By the time Todd was 5, his mother met a good Christian man that would change Todd's life forever.
A couple of years after his mom married, Todd's new dad adopted him and instilled into Todd the love of music. Todd's parents were worship leaders for years. "Both of my parents play instruments and sing. Dad started teaching me how to play the drums when I was 8 years old. I remember mom driving me to guitar lessons whether I wanted to go or not! One day, they heard me sing and informed me that I should be ready to sing that following Sunday in church! I've been singing ever since!"
As the years passed, Todd became captivated with such contemporary Christian artists as Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith. "I think what pulled me to them was their humbleness before the Lord." Artist such as Jars of Clay, Chris Tomlin and Darrell Evans have made an important impact on Todd's life also.
By the age of 17, Todd knew what his calling was to be on his life. Todd felt the need to start writing songs. He would begin writing down words to songs that would seem to start flowing from him. He learned early to keep a note pad close by, but in his words, "a napkin will do!"
"I desperately want to touch peoples lives with my music and to express my walk with God through song in hopes of leading others into worship." Todd explains, "I have a real passion for worship music and a desire to lead others into the presence of God no matter what the platform would be; in a concert arena or in a local church!"
Todd enjoys going to different venues to minister in music. His travels have taken him to many states. "Traveling doesn't bother me. In fact, I like it! My parents traveled quite a bit when I was younger showing me different places all over the United States! I guess I built up a high tolerance that most don't have! That's a good thing ... right??"
Todd comes from a strong Christian heritage. His grandfather has been a minister of the gospel for over 50 years. "I would call him my mentor. Who better to pattern your life after than a man that has blazed the trail before me?" Also, Todd has three uncles that are minister. Now at the age of 25, Todd is beginning to understand the importance of carrying on the gospel. The only difference is that his platform will be music!
You can see his passion for God and worship in songs such as "More Of You", "I Will Run" and "Saturate Me". These songs came from personal experiences in Todd's life. "More Of You" describes a personal longing that I have to know Christ deeper. I read a book not too long ago called God Chasers by Tommy Tenney that was a heavy influence when I wrote "I Will Run". Then, "Saturate Me" speaks of my personal cry for a renewing of God's grace!" As he's talking, he pauses, and then goes on. "Early into my 20's, problems hit me in the face. I knew more than ever that God had ordained certain situations that were happening. I felt compelled to begin praying for Him to saturate me. After that, everything became perfectly clear. "I don't know, when trials hit, some people give up. As for me, each day, I'm learning to look up! It's hard ... that's when I learn to lean on Him!"
When asked what he wants to leave people with at the end of a concert, his response was "The simplicity of Christ! That's what I'm wanting people to understand. The bible states that whosoever will come to me, I will give him rest and it also says my burden is light and my yoke is easy. I want people to go into a new realm with Jesus that they might have never gone before. If people will yield, I will be satisfied knowing that the truth has been received and I will feel complete knowing that I have answered the calling on my life. Then, it's on to another place to share God's love once again!"
