Peter Johnston RVA started as a few informal home recordings around 2016 to prove that Catholic thought and indie rock are not mutually exclusive. The Peter Johnston RVA name is a nod to my mother who converted to Catholicism as a teenager and was a musician in her youth. She was adopted and met some of her biological family when she was in her 30s--the family name of her biological family was Johnston, and they were very much into genealogy. As luck would have it, the very first Johnston to come to America in the 1600s was one Peter Johnston. He settled in Virginia but was captured by an Ohio Native American tribe and held as a prisoner for some time in his youth. If he had not survived that ordeal, needless to say, I never would have been born, so the whole project is a little bit of an homage to the awe and wonder of all the things that have to come together for someone to come about in this life, which is nothing short of a miracle and deigned by the hand of God.
