Since January 2005, Florida sibling trio, Truth Bomb, has been on a mission to glorify God and encourage His people. With a melodic pop/rock sound reminiscent of Jars of Clay, Truth Bomb’s honest, thought-provoking lyrics wrestle with the challenges of following Christ. Tobin Hyman, General Manager of EMACK Music Publishing, says of Truth Bomb’s ministry, “I’m encouraged that you’re serving the Lord with your talent at a young age and as a family.”
Truth Bomb is currently recording their much anticipated sophomore release at Mixed Up Sound– the band’s home studio. The theme that runs through the five tracks on the Hourglass EP is one of the brevity of life and of the importance of using our words for the benefit of others while we still have the time. Beginning in March, Truth Bomb will be hitting the road for the spring leg of The Hourglass Tour, promoting the digital release of the new album in late April.
Having grown up in an environment steeped in music, it is no wonder where Truth Bomb got their love for the craft. “Our parents have always been huge music fans and I think that’s where we got our love for music,” says rhythm guitarist, Christin Boyce, 21. Christin is joined in the band by front man and guitarist, Andrew Boyce, 19; and bassist, Kaitie Boyce, 15.
Truth Bomb released their first EP - Can You Hear It? - April 11, 2006. Later that month, the lead single “Today” won the band a songwriting contest hosted by Rocketown recording artist, Ginny Owens. The following year was a busy one with shows throughout Florida and Georgia, the addition of drummer Sam Umphlett, and the Ignition Conference and Showcase where Truth Bomb took home the award for Fan Favorite. In May 2008, after ten months of touring with Sam Umphlett, he and the band agreed to part ways. With Truth Bomb slimmed down to the original three members, the band decided to start a home studio and begin working on their sophomore project, with front man Andrew taking on the roles of producer and engineer. With the release of the first single “Pray for You” came rave reviews from fans, old and new, as well as acceptance by many radio stations. Pastor Stan Adams of Coastal Cathedral Church of God in Savannah, GA says, “If this [single] is any indication of the full CD, Truth Bomb has only just begun.”
During the Christmas season of ’08, Truth Bomb experienced even greater success with the release of their brand new version of the classic Christmas carol “What Child is This”. The single received air time on major Christian radio stations as near as Reach FM in Florida and as far as Revival FM – the only full-time Christian radio station in Scotland. “We love the song ‘What Child is This’. It is great. I wanted to thank you for allowing us to play it on our station. It is still in rotation [as of 1-5-09] just ‘cause I like it that much. It is one of the best that I have heard this Christmas season,” says Aaron, owner of Voice of Truth Radio.
Jordyn Conner, Director of A&R Provident Music, says she thinks Truth Bomb is off to a good start. With four years of ministry behind them and the release of the Hourglass EP just around the corner, Truth Bomb feels that, indeed, this is just the start.
