Patience is a virtue, it might hurt you in the flesh, but it will nourish your spirit and then you’ll flourish, fresh.” Those were the first words that Ajax Starglider ever spoke on an album. The year was 1995, and the album was LPG’s debut classic The Earthworm (Brainstorm Artists International). “Deafening Silence” was the first of many memorable Tunnel Rat posse cuts that Ajax would put his stamp on, but this one was prophetic.
In the early 90’s Marc Broome started a rap group with his brother Jason. After a couple of local shows, the duo added DJ Trey-Qel and a talented emcee by the name of Sojourn, and named the group Future Shock. The group soon joined forces with Raphi, Zane, Peace 586, and LPG to form the Tunnel Rats. The crew redefined “Christian Rap” with its innovative and influential style. Ajax produced and performed on groundbreaking albums such as: Illumination by SFC, Experience by Tunnel Rats, The Risen Son by Peace 586, and of course Future Shock’s acclaimed debut Remember The Future.
After touring the country in support of those early Tunnel Rat projects, Ajax took some time to go to school and become a certified Audio Recording Engineer. Starglider logged hours and hours in the studio and emerged with his first solo record Audio Odyssey. He also organized, recorded, mixed, designed, and promoted the Unified Revolution compilation that included early recordings from members of LA Symphony, Deepspace 5, and Scribbling Idiots respectively. In 1999 Ajax engineered and mixed the SolSeekers debut album People Watching, providing beats and rhymes on the smash single “Audience of One”. The single reached number one on mp3.com’s Hip-Hop charts edging out Q-tip’s “Vivrant Thing” for several weeks.
Future Shock continued their musical progression and released their sophomore album The Art of Xenos on Syntax Records in 2002. Ajax produced, engineered, and mixed the majority of the record, which gained recognition from URB magazine when the publication chose “Little Bit” for its compilation promoting “what’s hot in hip-hop”. The group spent the next couple of years performing consistently in Southern California, sharing the stage with the likes of KRS-One, Blackalicious, Pigeon John, Grits, and many others.
Ajax Starglider has continued to grow in his creativity by branching out into film production. The self-taught filmmaker has produced and directed music videos for Braille, Redcloud, Theory Hazit, Cook Book & Uno Mas, and JustMe. He has also been a contributor for shows featured on ESPN, The Outdoor Channel, The Home & Garden Channel and more.
Recently Ajax has fused his Audio and video skills to create a live multimedia stage show sure to captivate audiences everywhere. His new albums Middle Class Broadcast and Middle Class Artisan speak about the things Ajax knows best, hard work and perseverance. He’s been patiently waiting for you to “join the minority who listen to Ajax Starglider”, and you should, because it is his time to flourish. Fresh!
