"The Making of Ryan Lamb" - After making a name for himself with his 2006 solo debut, Raging River, Jeremy James Bonner returns with a new look, a new sound and a new name. With his latest recordings Bonner has redefined himself as an artist. Assuming the pseudonym, Ryan Lamb, Bonner's new name reflects who he has become through this process: strong-willed, but just as committed to his faith as ever. Many in the Pee Dee region are already familiar with Lamb. CCM Magazine's website hailed Lamb's former band, Given Grace, as an independent band to watch in the future. In 2001 he was featured in the Florence Morning News alongside his former band mates, and again in 2006 for a solo artist spotlight. Under the guidance of veteran producer, Eric Brice, Lamb's music has received a facelift - no more ambient opuses with loose construction. Brice is best known as the guitarist for Israel and New Breed. Having worked with everyone from Peabo Bryson to Da Brat, Brice brings years of major label recording experience to the table and has demanded the best of Lamb. The partnership has resulted in tighter, more focused, songs that are not only radio friendly but substantive. In tracks like "Sea of Hands," we see Lamb exploring the realms of his talent as he sings about the divisions he's witnessed among the Christian community. Brice's instrumentation lends wings to Lamb's indelible lyrics and guitar. A funky bass-line gives soul to a message of hope, a masterful guitar solo during the bridge helps drive that message home. "Mr. Dependent" will draw listeners in with its striking piano chords and hold them tight with Lamb's words and subtle strumming. It is a passionate anthem about being yourself and proudly proclaiming what you believe in. Authenticity is a driving theme in Lamb's music, weaving his songs together seamlessly. It culminates with the track "Grace in the Waiting." Vastly different in tempo and structure, this song is the sum of Lamb's ten year career; an affirmation of his faith and unwillingness to give up. I have had the pleasure of sitting down with some of the biggest acts in the southeast, Sister Hazel, Rhonda Vincent and The Rage, Corey Smith, Corey Crowder, and Sequoyah Prep School. Lamb is genuine, the real deal. With his new status he has positioned himself to become every bit as successful. "I know that even if I continue to do this on the level that I've done it for the rest of my life, I am going to find some contentment from [music]. But that's not going to stop me from trying to push myself," said Lamb. "I think that I've achieved the next level with the songs that I'm doing now and that's important. Doing things to a certain level of excellence is extremely important especially when I'm supposed to be representing God." Lamb has made it his mission to bring people closer to God while offering more personal insight and heart than most contemporary Christian artists. - Donald E. Quist
