I just bought one of their songs, "Invisible", on my iPod. Before that, I've never heard of them before. Song's pretty good, but that's the only song I've heard of theirs.

Regardless of what kind of rock you prefer, the new Disciple record has it all. Whether you like epic rock anthems, mosh starters, rock ballads, or that healthy dose of screaming, you will find any and all right here.
And just when you thought that Disciple couldn't top their other albums, they proved us all wrong with the new release of "Horseshoes & Handgrenades".
All though every song is a great piece of work, some of the songs definitely worth mentioning (Also the first 3 tracks) are "Dear X, You Don't Own Me", "Watch It Burn", and "Invisible"; All of which are some of the top highlights of the album, but don't worry, these first 3 tracks are just warming things up.
The album continues at a fist-pumping pace throughout. The album does not know the meaning of "Dull Moments". And with that being said, if you're looking for an album that is guaranteed to make you bang your head... look no further.
Horseshoes & Handgrenades is hands down Disciple's best work and could very well be one of the best Christian rock albums of the year...

I just love how Disciple has Bible verses that go with each song, I spent over an hour listening to the album because I looked up all the verses. The verses give the songs deeper meaning. My favorite songs were Dear X You don't Own Me, Watch It Burn, Invisible, and Remedy. The other songs were pretty awesome too, but those had a close meaning for me. All in all an album worth getting in my opinion.

After Southern Hospitality most fans of Disciple where disappointed. So I was excited for the release of Horseshoes & Handgrenades to see if they would return to the hard rocking greatness. They did not disappoint. This album does a great job of melting you face off from the first (radio friendly) track on. Don't let the fact that Christian pop stations are playing the first single as the album pushed forward into heavier and harder sounds and you do deeper. A great return to form and a must have for rock fans.

Disciple is a band that has seemingly gotten better and better with every album. Their latest offering, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, I consider to be their best album yet. The album starts off a little too slow for hardcore Disciple fans with the single Dear X but after that song, the rest of the album grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. It's heavy, in-your-face rock and roll from then on. Disciple has seemed to have found their sound with this release. It's going to be very hard to top this excellence on the next album.

I have been a huge fan of Disciple for the past couple years and they are one of my favorite bands by far, especially as far as Christian Rock is concerned. This band is not only seriously talented musically but Kevin can write some amazing lyrics and that show this band wearing their faith on their sleeves. This album exemplifies this and takes the best of this sound they have been improving and make Disciple truly who Disciple is.
The album starts off a little quieter than most Disciple albums with the radio friendly "Dear X." This song is amazing, it has some great lyrics of how hate, pain, and anger no longer own us. It has a catchy chorus and you can't help but sing along. Things pick up instantly with the assault of "Watch It Burn" with some amazing heavy rock riffs this is a true rocking Disciple track. Things slow down again for the mid-tempo "Invisible", strong track tackling about the issue that even when we feel that we are alone and invisible, God always can see us. Next up is the "Ballad of St. Augustine" This is one of the most intricate tracks on the album with some great riffs and awesome drumming, great metal song. Disciple keeps the tempo up with "Shot Heard Round the World" and is a great anthem to shout out and rock to. "Collision" is a nice softer rock track and is very catchy. If you can't get enough metal "Battle Lines" screams and roars its way through and will have you pumping your fist. Now "Remedy" although its catchy just doesn't seem like the best Disciple has to offer, its a decent song and a great message, but just doesn't do it totally musically to all it could be. "Eternity" picks up with some great guitars and the message on eternity with Christ, with some of my favorite lyrics ever from Disciple. "Revolution:Now" is just another decent track that keeps the energy up but is nothing as great compared to the other gems on the album. The 2nd to last track "Deafening" is one of my favorite tracks with a strong rock sound and talking about how even when we stray away from Christ and hear his voice we can't fight that love from him and to run back to him.The album ends with the absolutely beautiful and powerful "Worth the Pain." This is a great end to an outstanding album and will have you wanting more.
Now I've had this album since July with the early pre-order option to get the whole album, and I haven't put this one down since then. This is easily going to be the best rock album of the year and is just one amazing record. If you love rock and want to get close to God this album is definitely worth checking out, by one of the most amazing christian rock bands around. This is the "Shot Heard Round the World."

The saying goes that close only counts with Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Knoxville, TN Christian Heavy Metal Band Disciple gave this title to their eighth full length studio release to indicate that they had no intention of letting success go to their head and "mail in" the new album. They didn't just hit the target with this release, they obliterated it.

The opening track Dear X, You Don't Own Me is a description of the New Creation that we are in Christ. Throughout the song, Lead Vocalist Kevin Young describes his "relationship" with Pain, Shame, Hate and Anger, and makes his break with them, as the Bible says, there is now no condemnation to those of us who are in Christ. The song contains this memorable bridge
"Go ahead, put a target on my forehead, you can fire but you've got no bullets. I was yours, I'm not yours anymore, you don't own me."
The intensity doesn't let up for Watch it Burn, but the band briefly slows things down for the Best Song on the album, the Skillet like Invisible, which seems to be a companion piece to Whatever Reason from their previous album, Southern Hospitality. Both songs seem to be drawn from the parable of the prodigal son. A drum solo segues this song into The Ballad of St A, a metalcore masterpiece, which then flows into The Shot Heard Round the World, a battle cry with "Our Bloody Fists Raised to the Sky."
Quickly becoming my favorite is Eternity, a hard rock song about heaven. The biblical imagery is breathtaking.
"...where the shadows are never discovered, tears are nothing more than a memory, death isn't alive any longer. We'll awaken to eternity." But lest we think this band has its head in the clouds, we are reminded that, despite the trials, life is worth living. "It's worth the pain."
I've tried to make this review brief, because in my opinion, there isn't a bad song on this album. Rather than blather on an on, let me say 5 Big Stars. I would give more if I could. Still deciding on perfect album status. The Shot Heard Round the World? To quote another track, it's deafening.

So, here I am writing another review, however I am very delighted to be writing this one, in that it is a review on my favorite hard rock/Christian band. SO! Without further-adu, Here goes.
This CD starts off with a interesting song that I can't exactly make out who the lyrics are focused on, stating in the chorus, "You don't own me". And proceeds through the CD with hard rock guitar riffs, heavy drums, and killer rock vocals as usual from Mr. Young.
Disciple I believe has been characterized in the last four albums by Kevin Young's vocals, which he belts out with no regret to pump the message of the music out loud and clear. However, in this latest release I believe they have effectively begun a change from relying on Kevin's vocals, to supporting them with intricate guitar leads/riffs, as well as more intricate drum parts, which myself being a drummer, am impressed by.
This CD I believe is a good step forward for disciple with exploring more instrumental intricacies, and vocal melodies. I do think on a couple songs the vocals seem a tiny bit shaky as though Kevin wasn't used to the new way he was singing a particular part. But he may have intended for that effect.
All in all, I personally endorse Disciple very much, Kevin has some great things to say, and is not afraid to break out God's word on stage, which all true Christian's should be able to do,
and their music is great if you are into music that blends 'almost-screamo' and singing with impressive instrumentals.
Can you tell I like this band? haha. Well, that's my review, hope it helps someone decide whether they should buy this CD or not, I very well may once I have the money. :]

A must have for fans of Christian hard rock. Disciple has been an excellent band down the years and this release will surely not disappoint anyone who has liked their previous releases.
