What You Need To Know Diamonds to Dust is a death metal band from New York. They have gone through multiple line-up changes over the years, including vocalists. Their current line-up is their best yet. The three-piece band releases their newest EP, Decisions, through Manifest Records. These three songs offer crushing music with intense great messages.
What It Sounds Like Diamonds to Dust's new EP, Decisions, has plenty of traditional death metal influences but also has evident metalcore elements which include some solid clean vocals (that is, singing) and riffs of that genre. Lead singer Christian Roche displays incredible screaming range, from high, piercing screams to guttural, low growls. While the other two members, Barry and Brandon, handle the singing when it is present. There is also a fair amount of melodic music weaved into the songs.
Spiritual Highlights The band describes itself as "a band dedicated to making music for the Lord Almighty." And, the EP lives up to this description. "Adventure Time" is about one's struggle with our self and our desire to live for Christ. A deep lyric says, "This war wages on in every single person the light and the dark/But the dark will never prevail if you keep Christ in your heart."
"Silence is Also Suicide" is a darker track. It's a narrative of reflection on an anonymous suicide. The song's message is directed at those who stand by when someone is struggling and do or did nothing. "Corpus Christi" is the EP's single. A great lyric is "We nailed our savior for absolution of the human race/The sinners who walk along the crooked line are condemned." The song closes with a Latin translation of Luke 22:17-19. Altogether, great lyrical content.
Best Song "Corpus Christi" is the lead single for good reason. It's the best of the EP's three songs. "Adventure Time" showcases impressive heavy content, and "Silence Is Also Suicide" offers heavy melody. But, "Corpus Christi" combines the heavy content with melody beautifully. It may not have much singing. But, it has more annunciation in the screams, which some might prefer.

Bottom Line Diamonds to Dust's EP Decisions is one of the best heavy music releases of 2020. The three songs are each respectable in their own rights. Some might not like the metalcore-death metal blend. But, I think it makes them more unique. The EP features one of the best Christian-based death metal songs I've heard in several years, "Corpus Christi." Overall, the EP shows improved production and growth from previous releases. I hope this is the beginning of much more music from this band.
