The Scarlet Cord, Denae Joy's seventh solo release, is a truly special collection of 11 anointed songs - 10 of them original compositions by the artist. The album begins with a song by the same title. It shares the dramatic story of Rahab, just a sinner who plead for mercy and, amazingly, received it. The symbol of her freedom was a scarlet cord that hung from her window down the city wall. That cord has come to represent the precious blood of Jesus, which offers liberty and forgiveness to all. "No stain is too deep, no stranger too far, that the blood of the Lamb can't reach to where we are."
The beautiful melody and lyric of the song come to life with the accompaniment of an orchestral string section arranged by renowned composer, Steve Mauldin.
Ephesians 2:13, "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ."
Next in line is, "I Can't Wait", a brand new song with an old time, bluesy Pentecostal feel. It is sure to take you to church and fill your soul with anticipation for an eternity with Jesus! Track number three is very special. Denae Joy wrote it for the Joe Burgess Family when they lost their precious son, Blake, to a tragic car accident. "May You Be Held" will speak comfort to anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one. Following is the beloved song, "He's Been Faithful". Denae's fresh, simple jazz approach to this timeless classic is sure to be appreciated.
Beware, because swooping in to change the mood is a high-energy gospel choir song about heaven. "I'm Gonna Fly Away" might just make you shout! A meaningful song entitled, "While I'm Breathing", was written by Denae to honor her father, David L. Abbott, for his steadfastness in working for the Lord in spite of his many health challenges. The crowning jewel of the song is a bridge with lyrics taken from Psalm 150. Next is a unique and powerful song called, "Real". The message of the song speaks straight to the heart of the day in which we live. In society we see flashing lights, virtual reality and a lot of 'fake'. In contrast, a view of Calvary and what it offers today is very 'real'. Denae is accompanied on vocals by her brother, David D. Abbott.
Those who enjoy Denae's ukulele music will love a fun, toe-tapping tune about the sower and the seed called, "Keep On Sowing". It will put a smile on your face as it encourages you to keep on being a witness for Christ. Track number nine was written by the artist during a life-changing missions trip to the Philippines and Thailand. Denae was amazed by how the culture was so different, yet the presence of God felt exactly the same - on the other side of the globe. It was there, in an altar service, she started writing the lyric for this special song, "All Over The World". Nearing the end of the journey is a hand-clapping song encouraging the listener to not give up on a prayer request. Jesus told a parable that made it clear: it's alright to bring your needs to the Lord again and again. And again! The closing melody is a very special one to the artist. "Author, Write My Story" beautifully expresses a desire to have God write the story of your life. The unique, classical sound of this track is given depth by the rich cello playing of the Nashville Symphony's leading cellist, Anthony LaMarchina.
The final words of the album, "I know You love me, so write my story with Your nail-scarred hand."
