Massive rock riffs, swirling drums, monstrous hooks and undeniably catchy choruses. Hints of progressive rock mixed in with modern alternative flourishes and touches of classical influence as swelling strings intersect with sonic adrenaline rushes. It's indeed a fusion unlike any other, marking the latest chapter in the continuous evolution of Skillet, whose moniker couldn't be more fitting come its explosive release Comatose.
Coupled with 200 dates a year on the road, this foursome is one of the hardest working, heaviest rocking, boldly witnessing and most broadly appealing acts of its generation. Comatose has several examples of Skillet flexing its experimental muscles while keeping true to their original calling. The first single "Rebirthing" is a complex but accessible amalgamation of piercing strings, jarring guitars, humongous power chords and neck snapping reactions calling all to come alive in Christ. In sharp contrast, but equally compelling are enormous anthems like "The Last Night," "Say Goodbye" and "Yours to Hold," all oozing with ethereal orchestration and insanely infectious sing-a-long potential.
"The funny thing about Jesus is that He wasn't just all talk, but as much or more about relationships and communicating to people in a relatable way, as He was solely preaching to them. I'm very passionate about evangelism, but love begets evangelism and we want people to know we care about their needs in a practical way." - John Cooper, Lead Vocalist - SKILLET
Naming the record Comatose further cements those expressions, hoping to rev up listeners to break beyond the mundane, get on track with their relationships (here on earth and with the Creator), and charge forward with hope.
John L. Cooper – vocals, bass guitar
Korey Cooper – keyboard, guitar, vocals
Lori Peters - drums
Ben Kasica - guitar

Absolutely one of the worse bands in the world and if you don't believe me, watch them live.
Skillet so badly wants to be a mainstream band and you can see it with this album. How does a married man, write songs about relationships ending?
Skillet has lost integrity with their lyrics and the music is the same old Skillet.
So if you like the same skillet album, that they have been making for the last 15 years, then you will love this album, but if you're looking for something different, something that the singer knows what he is singing about try Kutless, Over Ashes, Jeremy Camp, Rush of Fools.
Had me on "Rebirthing"!| Posted July 07, 2007
First heard "Rebirthing" from the music video, and got in drilled into my brain within a couple of days. Just starting with such a strong song is credit to the talents of Skillet, much less the great line-up following their single.
"Yours to Hold" shows Skillet's ability to still sound right at home with a slower melody. This song, as well as "Say Goodbye", also demonstrate some of the more interesting vocal performances, and are some very well-made tracks that work where "Rebirthing" will cause headaches.
An excellent CD. "Better Than Drugs" is the only negitive I find on the disc, as it only makes God out to be a high better than the one drugs can give, ignoring the true benefits of God. Otherwise, the album is well made. I cannot wait for Skillet's next release.

Great beats, and guitar. Definatley got my attention the first time i heard it. I really enjoy listening to this album, its more of a modern type of rock than their other albums.
This CD is Better Than Drugs| Posted July 03, 2007
Comatose shows everything that Skillet has been building up to thus far. Comatose opens up with "Rebirthing" and as soon as the orchestra comes in and the drums kick it off, you know that their saying "Yes, we're back and better then before."
"Better Than Drugs" is a great analogy song and very "addictive" to listeners (as it has climbed the charts). "Comatose" is once of my favorite songs on that CD as it's just musically hard enough to send the message of pain and life. "Looking For Angels" is a unlike the other tracks on Comatose. It hands you life as it is.
I highly recommend picking up Comatose. You absolutely can't go wrong.
Comatose by Skillet...amazing!!| Posted July 03, 2007
in 2004 skillet released Collide. This dynamic heavy album, with shades of industrial metal, was loved by Panheads and rock fans in secular and christian venues alike.
nearly 3 years later, they put out another amazing effort with Comatose.
It starts off with 'Rebirthing', the first single, a dynamic song with incredible guitar work. Believe it or not, this one has strings too! yes, a violin in hard rock!!! This one is GUARANTEED to get stuck in your head!
With cool lyrics
'Rebirthing now
I wanna live for love, wanna live for you and me
Breathe for the first time now I come alive somehow'
it stayed on top of christian rock charts for weeks!
Next comes 'The Last Night', with a mellow piano intro, launching into a haunting and beautiful duet by John Cooper and his wife, Korey.
'Yours To Hold' slows things down a bit, with a mid tempo acoustic rock ballad, with thoughtful lyrics. Definately the highlight of the disk, the title track has a very intriguing strings intro, almost poppish, before slamming into high gear with heavy guitars.
'The Older I Get' and 'Those Nights' have a slightly different sound, still hard rock, but more melodic than the rest of the album
'Whispers In the Dark' another single, is an excellent hard rock song, that even popped onto the billboard modern rock charts!
'Looking For Angels' the closing chart, tries something completly new! John talks the lyrics to a background guitar, not singing
the lyrics are particularly good in this one, so PAY ATTENTION!
anyways, Skillet pulls out another great one!
4.5 stars

Best Skillet album to date| Posted July 02, 2007
This is by far the greatest work skillet has produced.
The moment I heard rebirthing I was hooked and knew I had to buy this album. Then I saw the videos for rebirthing and Whispers in the Dark and that just solidified my desire to get this album.
Add Yours to hold, The older I get, falling into black and the title track Comatose and this album is gonna make you want to listen over and over. I did for me anyway.
