Massive rock riffs, swirling drums, monstrous hooks and undeniably catchy choruses. Hints of progressive rock mixed in with modern alternative flourishes and touches of classical influence as swelling strings intersect with sonic adrenaline rushes. It's indeed a fusion unlike any other, marking the latest chapter in the continuous evolution of Skillet, whose moniker couldn't be more fitting come its explosive release Comatose.
Coupled with 200 dates a year on the road, this foursome is one of the hardest working, heaviest rocking, boldly witnessing and most broadly appealing acts of its generation. Comatose has several examples of Skillet flexing its experimental muscles while keeping true to their original calling. The first single "Rebirthing" is a complex but accessible amalgamation of piercing strings, jarring guitars, humongous power chords and neck snapping reactions calling all to come alive in Christ. In sharp contrast, but equally compelling are enormous anthems like "The Last Night," "Say Goodbye" and "Yours to Hold," all oozing with ethereal orchestration and insanely infectious sing-a-long potential.
"The funny thing about Jesus is that He wasn't just all talk, but as much or more about relationships and communicating to people in a relatable way, as He was solely preaching to them. I'm very passionate about evangelism, but love begets evangelism and we want people to know we care about their needs in a practical way." - John Cooper, Lead Vocalist - SKILLET
Naming the record Comatose further cements those expressions, hoping to rev up listeners to break beyond the mundane, get on track with their relationships (here on earth and with the Creator), and charge forward with hope.
John L. Cooper – vocals, bass guitar
Korey Cooper – keyboard, guitar, vocals
Lori Peters - drums
Ben Kasica - guitar

I Love This CD| Posted June 24, 2008
After falling in love with Rebirthing and Whispers in the Dark I finally went out and bought this CD. I bought the Deluxe Edition but I would rather review the actual album than the 5 acoustic songs that come as an extra. This album rocks all the way through it's 11 tracks. Each track has something special. If you only have the regular edition of this album than you are missing out on an amazing bonus song that is included on the Deluxe Edition. It's called Live Free Or Let Me Die and I recommend that you buy it off iTunes (if they allow you to buy that song seperate) or if that doesn't work, find someone who has the Deluxe Edition and get that song. It's a great rock song that should have been included on the album. All in all, Comatose is one of the best hard rock albums I have heard in my life.
How many ways can I say Skillet completely ROCKS!| Posted June 19, 2008
This album is my favorite from Skillet. This album had two CHR hits, "The Older I Get" and "The Last Night". "The Last Night" is much of a melody and hits the soft spot. They have a diverse Evanesence sound on "Whispers In the Dark". "Rebirthing" has an amazing sound and just heats up until the chorus but it also comes out as a little Evanesense familiarity. The chorus has an amazing touch to it and I love the duet between Korey and John on the song, "Comatose" also has the nice touch like "Rebirthing". "Better Than Drugs" is another favorite of mine with the saying that God is better than drugs. "Looking For Angels" gives a lot of wordly happenings. "Those Nights" I guess is a story about a fight but people love the song whether it talks about a fight or not and it has a great pop-ish sound to it. Good work John!. "Yours To Hold" is a great soft song and leaves a nice melody to touch this album. "Falling Inside the Black" is not really a favorite of mine but it still touches the listener. "Say Goodbye" is another one of those that isn't one of my favorites but another one that touches the listener. I still give it 5 stars because John Cooper has great song writing and knows how to put songs together. You get a great deal of different music on this album. This is a good album to buy for those who like the grungy rock sort of thing.

I love skillet wholeheartedly, so everything they stick out there will be adored by me, but this one was especially good. The guy's got the most amazing voice ever and the guitar and drumming is sweet. listen to it and you'll understand. They make you want to scream and dance and sing and cry. It was psychy.

Best Skillet album...ever!| Posted April 11, 2008
I love it. its the best like by like a bazillion. i've always loved Skillet, but Comatose just blew me away. They kinda abandoned some of the techo sound (like on Alien Youth) but i think that i like it better. I feel like when i listen to it, that they wrote the lyrics for me and my friends you know. we can just relate. and Ben Kasica is like the best christian guitarist...ever! hes really super talented (I told him he was my music role model at winterjam when i met them hehehe) but yeah. i can almost like not even choose a favorite song. i dont think theres one that i dont like (not even one of those songs where ur like i like it but not as much as all the other songs u kno) Whispers In The Dark is great like not only does the solo rock your face off (lol) but the lyrics have so much meaning to me. Better Than Drugs is wonderfully written, and Comatose and Rebirthing are both awesome too. I really like Looking For Angels, a lot of people i know dont like it purely because it is mostly spoken, but i think that its great. It really shows a lot of the issues teens and young adults face in this day and age. Buy it! Now!

This album has so much meaning in everyone of its songs. I am listening to them right now for like the millionth time and I love it the same as when I first got the album. Those Nights is a great song =D.
