As the name implies, Project 86 has delivered a confrontational 6th full length, where not a single note, lyric, or track is wasted. This is, for certain, their most song-oriented and diverse release to date, proving that progression through evolution is a divine mandate. The songs are commercial and accessible without sacrificing intensity. Expanding upon their patented sound, there are hints of everything from vintage Danzig, Psychadelic Furs, Joy Division, and early, east-coast hardcore. Frontman Andrew Schwab states, "We just wanted to write songs we would enjoy listening to ourselves. We started doing this because we are music fans first, and we didn't have any preconceived ideas about what this album should be, beyond knowing that the songs themselves needed to be memorable." From the Cure-esque drama of "Molotov" to the Queens of the Stone Age-like force of "The Kane Mutiny" to the Misfits macabre of "Illuminate" this is a rock n' roll record with more variety than most, which will keep you interested from front to back. In a time when heavy music is as narrow as it is predictable, Rival Factions may just challenge you to redefine your terms.

P86 releases another solid effort| Posted August 06, 2007
First off, I would like to say I've been a big fan of Project 86 since they released "Truthless Heroes", and enjoy every cd in their catalog. I pre-ordered "Rival Factions" and received it a couple days before it was released. Immediately I threw it in my CD player and sat down with the CD booklet and listened to it all the way through. On the first listen, I was a bit disappointed. I really enjoyed "...And The Rest Will Follow" and was hoping for more music in that direction. Although the first 3 songs are in a way similar, the rest of Rival Factions goes in a more 80's pop direction. Imagine P86 + 80's pop and you have the last 7 songs of Rival Factions. On the first time through with this CD I had a tough time with this new musical direction, but upon the second and third listen the music REALLY began to grow on me. I think I was addicted to "Molotov" (the 4th track) for at least a week. Overall, this album takes some time to grow on you, but in the end its another solid P86 release.
Project86?| Posted July 29, 2007
Is this the same Project86?
While I've liked SOME Project86 songs i have never been able to sit and listen to the full CD until this latest release. Of course "Evil" is the highlight song for me but this CD truly indeed has some sweet sounds. Highly recommended for all kinds of music fans!
Nice addition!| Posted July 19, 2007
Rival Factions has a very nice sound to all the songs. CD's that have songs where you can listen to each one over and over are hard to come by. There is one dislike I have with this CD, when I was reading over the lyrics, it seems to me they kindof rushed the thinking process. The lyrics to every song don't go as.....in depth you could say. But all in all, still a very good pick!
A Turn Of Type| Posted July 10, 2007
Previously Project 86 was more lyrically based than musically based. However, on this CD it seems to be the other way around. Still, it is a good CD, and well worth the money.
New Sound, Veteran Act.| Posted July 10, 2007
I've never been all that into Project 86, but it's my job to stay informed about new releases so I stopped by the P86 myspace page to sample a couple tracks... Imagine my surprise when this giant arena-rock riff poured out of the speakers and knocked me on my ear! 'Evil (A Chorus of Resistance)' is the track... and I loved it. Figuring it a fluke, I skipped to the next track... EVEN BETTER! 'Put Your Lips to the TV' starts off with a smooth, jumpy, little piano intro... then another massive riff comes in right behind it. The chorus is the super catchy type that you find yourself yelling in the car. The album isn't all huge riffs though, there are also some new electronic sections fleshing out some of the later tracks. Sort of a throwback to Depeche Mode, but it works. Great record, great new sound, it's wonderful watching this band mature to a new level.
Suprisingly Different| Posted July 08, 2007
I did one of the pre-orders for this album and got the bonus track "The Kane Mutiny" from a friend who got it off itunes (currently it's the only way to get the track). I know Project 86 somehow always sounds different and original on every CD the come out with, but util now they had pretty much kept a similar "Project 86" sound. Which is why this alubm suprised me, it sounds alot more differnt and in a different way then in the past. The only way i can really describe it is that Schwab sounds more like he's screaming than shouting, not that that's a very good decripsion but, idk. You should just go and buy CD. You won't be dissapointed, it's very good musically. Lyrically though, it's alot different of a style, thats how it seems to me at least. I love it though. I love how they can sound different and original on every album they release. Ya, thats about all i have to say about it, i deffinatly recomend this CD.
Oh, the artwork is really sweet too, but i'm not gonna say anything about that.
