All Sons & Daughters [The Longing] | Posted September 25, 2012
Following three critically acclaimed projects, Franklin, Tennessee-based worship duo All Sons & Daughters announce the release of a new six-track EP, The Longing. This EP was preceded the EPs Brokenness Aside and Reason To Sing and double album Season One, which have earned them comparisons to The Civil Wars for their sweet harmonies and organic instrumentation. Composed of Leslie Jordan and David Leonard, the duo is known for writing songs such as “All The Poor and Powerless,” “Buried in the Grave” and “Reason to Sing,” that focus squarely on Jesus while embracing the tension of the Christian walk.
Opening track “Oh How I Need You” has a NEEDTOBREATHE musical feel reminding me of “The Outsiders” with the rollicking banjo part. The song was co-written with Stu G from Delirious and the opening lyrics are based on writings of Mother Teresa: “Lord I find You in the seeking / Lord I find You in the doubt / And to know You is to Love / And to know so little else.” If you are looking for a fresh new worship song to sing at your church, I highly recommend “Rising Sun.” The message is contemplative and worshipful with the call to worship: “Praise Him all you sinners, sing oh sing you weary / Oh praise Him all you children of God, We lift high His glory / Shown throughout our stories, we praise Him as the children of God” which leads into the worshipful chorus—“Our great Redeemer, Glorious Savior, Your name is higher than the rising sun / Light of the morning, You shine forever / Your name is higher than the rising sun.” Amen to that!
With The Longing, Leonard and Jordan continue to give words to the cries of worshipers everywhere with new songs like the title track “The Longing” which proclaims: “Love is and always was / The longing placed inside my heart / To know You and be known by You.” God speaks to us in different ways and I find myself closest to Him in my times of prayer and reflection, especially with songs of praise and adoration like “The Longing.” For me, this song reflects what's on my heart and my greatest desire as a follower of Jesus is to live out the Gospel and these songs all help me with my walk and challenge me to gain that "righteousness that comes from God and is by faith." Daily we are presented with the choices of how to use our time, lifestyle choices, pursuit of riches, living for today not knowing what tomorrow has in store for us and questioning our loneliness and looking for meaning. You can take comfort in knowing that “Nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Jesus.” Amen.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
These incredibly anointed songs cause me to worship along loudly with these talented worship leaders at the feet of Jesus and offer Him all of my praise and surrender to His majesty. Don’t miss out on All Sons & Daughters. This 3rd EP The Longing is compelling and ranks as my favorite of their three EPs. These prayerful sentiments are consistently filled with their personal adoration of God. Several of these songs should be added to your Sunday morning worship set, especially “Oh How I Need You,” “Hear The Sound,” “Rising Sun” and “The Longing.”
