Country music superstar Alan Jackson has re-released his 2006 gospel album Precious Memories, which broke records by topping three Billboard charts on its week of release – Top Country Albums, Top Christian Albums and Top Christian & Gospel Albums. The release is on ACR (Alan's Country Records) and EMI Records Nashville.
The 15-track album of classic hymns was originally recorded as a Christmas gift for Jackson's mother. The recording was very simple – just a piano and acoustic guitar – and a few CDs were pressed for Jackson's family and close friends. With enthusiastic encouragement from these friends, family and his record label, it was decided to make the music available to Jackson's fans... and for six years countless people enjoyed such timeless hymns as "Softly and Tenderly", "I'll Fly Away", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Tis So Sweet to Trust In Jesus."
"I love those songs, and they mean a lot to me," Jackson says. "I grew up singing just about every one of those. And I love that sound, of that organ, and that music really stuck with me and, I'm sure, affected how I hear songs now and write songs, 'cause a lot of those old songs are really pretty, simple melodies that stick with you."
Over time, retail supplies of Precious Memories dwindled as fans purchased the remaining copies of the original production. That's when the e-mails, letters and inquiries started coming. "We had so many people still wanting it and asking about it," Jackson explains. "It's just amazing. So we decided to put it back out and have it available again."

I always have this feeling that even when I like some singer very much, they have some song that I don't like. But with Alan Jackson, I like all of his songs! Really! He is awesome!

The whole record is extremely simple, no fuzz and fancy stuff, just plain simple. I like that, just Alan and the hymns! Even though these hymns are classics, and have been done a thousand times before, none can do them like Alan, he's one of a kind!
