Redemption [edit]
by Trish Standley | Genre: Gospel | Release Date: August 27, 2011

Gospel artist Trish Standley has clearly been blessed with the gift of music. One listen and anyone can see that this woman can sing. In addition to being an incredibly gifted vocalist, Trish also excels as a songwriter. Throughout the twelve tracks of Redemption, she gives us a peak into her soul and her love affair with God. It’s also clear that there is much more to Trish Standley than meets the ear. Each song on this amazing project touches the heart and encourages the spirit.
The CD’s first track, “Cheer Up” Is an energetic, upbeat song. A contagious praise track, “Cheer Up” is the perfect song for the open-ing of a Sunday morning service. Pulling lyrics directly from scripture, Trish inspires with this uplifting song. The background vocals are solid and the musicians bring a joyfulness to the track. Penned by Claudius Craig, “Because Of You” is a sweet ballad, a love song to God. Trish sings to the lover of her soul, the Lord Jesus Christ, on this breathtak-ingly beautiful track. “Because Of You” puts the believer in a spirit of worship and allows Trish to let loose lyrically and minister powerfully.
Trish becomes transparent on the urban-tinged “Redeemed”. Accented by R&B rhythms, “Redeemed” showcases the artist’s sweet soprano and her impressive range. One listen and it’s apparent that this psalmist is singing from her heart. Those who have questioned if they could ever be redeemed will leave this song with no doubts. Spreading her musical wings, Trish gives us some hip-hop on the explosive “Jesus Praise”. Opening with a rap and some strong grooves, “Jesus Praise” will certainly grab the ears of those who love today’s urban sounds. But Trish doesn’t just give us something to dance to, but she gives Jesus praise simultaneously. Unabashedly giving thanks to her Savior, the singer blesses God with this memorable track.
One of the most calming and reassuring songs on Redemption is the pretty, melodic “Remember Me”. A song that beckons God not to forget, it’s a pop-flavored ballad. Trish’s stunning vocals take center stage and the excellently-penned tune reminds the listener that we’ve all been anointed and appointed to do the work of the Lord. This is certainly one of the CD’s strong tracks and is worthy of the repeat button. Those who long to be with God will relate to the lyrics of “Where You Are”.
Trish, singing from a surrendered heart, beautifully ministers the song, “Here I Am”. The saxophone adds a special touch as the artist sings about her zeal for God. Because she has the uncanny ability to pull the listener into her worship, “Here I Am” is the perfect track for intimate times with God. Flaunting her ability to glide from one genre to another, the first few bars of “Love” makes one want to run to the Christian dance club floor. Its retro feel and positive message easily makes this song a winner. One of the most gorgeous ballads on this project is “I Don’t Know”. Its worshipful stance can’t help but put the listener in a place of reverence for God. The lyrics speak of that secret place and Trish takes us there with her wonderfully-executed soft soprano vocals.
On this musical journey, next Trish takes us to the Christian jazz hot spot with her stylish track, “He Lives”. Lovers of straight-ahead jazz will enjoy this improvisational and spiritual cut. Recorded live, this song is a celebratory one and showcases yet another side of this gifted psalmist. Those who are especially touched by the gift of salvation will be able to relate to the moving words of the track, “Why?” Another strong track, the song takes you to the scene of the resurrection. Trish reminds us of the victory we received on that day. “For We Know” further exhibits the jazz stylings of Trish, which she shines on brightly. With sounds reminiscent of Take 6, the track was penned by the artist and Carlton “C-DUB” Whitfield. The arrangement of the song is breathtaking as is the ability of the lead vocalist to minister from her heart. This song is certainly a highlight, as is this entire project. After listening to this artist’s sophomore project, fans will be waiting with bated breath for what’s next from this incredibly gifted singer.
