At their core, Victoria Awake are Michael Lauen and Aaron Munro. Michael Lauen (Guitars/Vocals/Synth) and Aaron Munro (Vocals/Guitar/Synth) are joined by Andrew Davie (Drums) and Josh Stromberg (Bass) for their upcoming foray into live performance.
The guys are influenced and inspired by artists such as Emery, Anberlin, The Killers, U2, Ivoryline, The Classic Crime, and Muse.
The bands debut ep High Hopes & Half Smiles was released March 7, 2010 in digital form only. It was really just Aaron and Michael testing the waters with stripped-down acoustic pop versions of the rock songs they had been writing. Local Saskatoon hip-hop artist Rational also made an epic appearance on the ep's electro-remix for their song Two Worlds.
A little history...
Late 2002, Michael and Aaron formed the nu-metal band Understated with two other friends. Understated released their only full length album “Rise from the Ashes” in 2005 after playing many gigs around Saskatchewan. “Rise from the Ashes” was nominated for the Shai Awards ‘Hard Rock Album of the Year’. Back in the Understated days Aaron spent more time hollering than singing. V/A gives him a chance to play to his real strengths and sing in his natural voice. Understated called it quits back in 2006.
In 2005 Michael Lauen joined the band Stereotrap. Ending in 2008, Stereotrap enjoyed extensive touring, thousands of album sales, charting songs on Christian and mainstream radio in Canada and the US, sharing the stage with bands such as Pillar, Thousand Foot Krutch, Kutless, Project 86, Mutemath, and Anberlin. The bands six song EP entitled "Are We the Wind or the Waves" hit stores Canada-wide October 24, 2007 winning ‘Hard Rock Song of the Year’ at the GMA Canada 2007 Covenant Awards.
