Our Hearts Hero was originally formed in 2002 under the name Fireproof. Founding members Nick Joyce, Jeremy McKnight, and Gabe White met in high school and started the band because they wanted to make music that was more positive. They changed their name to Our Hearts Hero at the start of 2004, and their first independent album, Can You Hear Me, was released that year. It was followed by two other independent albums: Live In California in 2005 and Our Hearts Hero in 2006. The band signed with Gotee Records in late 2006.
Their 2007 self-titled debut hailed 11 songs of heartfelt, soaring pop-rock, all penned by front man and guitarist Nick Joyce, with eight of the songs being produced by Brent Milligan (Audio Adrenaline, ZOEgirl, Rebecca St. James) and Ian Esklelin taking credit for three songs. Sonically, the debut album was likened to Switchfoot, Sanctus Real, Jimmy Eat World, and Delirious.
The first radio single released by Gotee Records, "Back To The Cross", peaked at Number 22 on the Billboard National Radio Charts and landed at #77 on the CRW Year End Top 100 list for Adult Contemporary on nationwide Christian radio.
Our Hearts Hero released their sophomore album, Shine On, produced by the band's frontman Nick Joyce, in 2012. The first single of the album, the title song "Shine On", broke into the top 30 Billboard BDS Christian Rock Chart, and was the #3 most added nationwide. A concept music video for the song "Shine On" was released via YouTube and racked up over a million views in its first 30 days online.
