Nouveaux band members: Paul Alan, Kurt Lehman, Steve Ashley, K.C. Smothers, Jeff Ausdemore
Steve Ashley was born and raised in a small town in southern Michigan and began playing guitar at the late age of 19. After several years of practicing and learning, he formed Nouveaux with his friend Kurt Lehman. After adding Paul Alan on lead vocals and keyboards, the band began playing for the Breakout Drug Education Program in high schools in the southern Michigan area.
Nouveaux began writing songs and eventually got signed to Benson Records in Nashville, Tennessee in 1994. They toured for about 4 years with various artists including Micheal Sweet from Stryper, Imagine This, and many others. They released two albums: 1994's Beginnings and 1996's And This Is How I Feel.
K.C. Smothers left Nouveaux in 1997 to join Whitecross. After Whitecross, he joined Stir for a short time and in 2000 he decided to stop touring full time. He now plays in local cover bands in Nashville. Steve Ashley continues to write music from Tennessee with his friend Michael Elsner and Adam Searan, and they had a song called You Again featured in the CBS television show Cold Case. Paul Alan has released two solo albums and focuses on being a husband and father.
